How to Add a many2many Relational Field in Odoo 17
Comparitives and superlatives
1. Comparatives
How do you compare objects in Hebrew. Is this
one better than that one. We will find out in this
lesson.
2. Comparatives
In English, we can compare two or more things.
That dog is better than this one. This cat is worse
than that one. Most of the time you add –er to an
adjective to compare (better, stranger, healthier,
etc), but you can also use the words ‘more’ or ‘less’
in certain cases.
In Hebrew, there is no equivalent to -er. Hebrew
uses a construction closer to ‘more’ or ‘less’ in
English for every adjective.
3. Comparatives
The word יותר (yoter) is used in Hebrew to express
the idea of ‘more’.
Similarly, the word פחות is used to express the
idea of ‘less’.
We use these words with the preposition מ, to form
a comparison. מ in this case means ‘than’ in
English. Let’s look at how these all fit together.
4. Comparatives
Since we are speaking of comparisons, we must be
comparing one noun to another. The first noun
comes before פחות/יותר . (It can come after in
more formal writing). Then the adjective of
comparison follows. Then the second noun must
be linked to the phrase by adding the preposition מ
before it.
To construct a phrase to show comparison, you use
either פחות/יותר + adjective + … מ (the preposition
.(מ
5. Comparatives
Let’s look at a few examples:
הכלב הזה יותר טוב מזה אחד (This dog is better than that one)
הספר פחות מעניין מהסרט (the book is less interesting than the
movie).
Don’t forget the rules for adjectives. Just because we
are adding comparatives between the noun and
adjective, does not mean the rules don’t apply. You
must still match the adjective and noun in gender and
number.
6. Comparatives
You can also add adverbs of intensification to
stress the comparison:
דוד קצת יותר חשוב מסרה David is a little more important
than Sarah.
דוד הרבה פחות מסרה David is a lot less important than
Sarah.
If you use these intensifiers, the construction is:
○ The adverb of intensity + פחות/יותר + adjective + מ
7. Superlatives
A superlative compares more than two things. It is
formed by adding –est to the end of an adjective or
adding ‘most’ or ‘least’ in English.
The construction to form the superlative is
Definite noun + הכי + indefinite adjective
○ זה הסרט הכי מעניין לראות
○ (This is the most interesting movie to see)
8. Superlatives
Another less common way to form the superlative
is by using the preposition ב with פחות/יותר . When
you do this, you must make sure to add the definite
article to the adjective as well as the noun.
The construction for this form is
Definite noun + definite adjective + בפחות/ביותר
○ זה החתול הגדול ביותר (This is the largest cat)
In the superlative, you must put the construction in
the exact order shown for either case. Order does
matter. This is different than the comparative.
9. Superlatives
If you leave off the ה to make the adjective definite
when using בפחות/ביותר it changes the meaning.
זה החתול הגדול ביותר (This is the largest cat)
זה החתול גדול ביותר (This is a very large cat)
זה החתול גדול (This cat is large)
זה החתול הגדול ( This large cat)
This article is very important so make sure you use it.
