  2. 2. Professionalism Courtesy : Mr Subroto Bagchi, Co Founder, MindTree  Difficult to define  It is not limited to getting a degree in a so called professional course  It is a way of life. It is to be deeply ingrained.

Literary Meaning  A calling requiring specialized knowledge and often long and intensive academic profession  A Professional – One participating for gain or livelihood in an activity or field of endeavour engaged in by Amateurs However, often this term seems to imply different things to different people

Professional in detail  Origin: Professio (Latin) – an oath taken upon entering a religious order.  Definitions have changed with times : From Earning money from what they do; conducting in a particular way, dressing style, ethical working.  Presently it can be defined as – Anyone who recognizes and understands the need to behave professionally, as if (s)he is on an oath to perform.

Qualities of a true Professional  Ability to work unsupervised  Ability to certify completion of a job or task, and  Ability to behave with integrity at all times A true professional is comfortable dealing with something (s)he was not trained for A person who needs supervision is no professional

What Integrity means Simply said, it means:  We follow the rules  Where rules don’t exist, we use fair judgment  When in doubt, we don’t go ahead and do what suits us; we seek counsel  Finally, faced with a difficult choice, we ask ourselves: can my act stand public scrutiny with no embarrassment to me and my family
  8. 8. Test of integrity  Is my intended act consistent with the law of land?  Is what I am going to do a fair thing?  If I were to seek counsel from someone with no vested interest, would he second my act?  Would it embarrass me if the news of what I intend to do broke out?

Self Aware….ness  They Understand their true strength  They know how much of their success is because of their inherent strength and how much is situational  They understand that they need not hog the limelight all the time  They seek help without       shame Deeply self observant Welcome feedback Don’t lose touch with their work Being Proactive Taking Charge Courtesy and Humility

For sales, face time with prospect is touch time. For techno…when machine tool meets metal… Take time off for relaxation and rejuvenation
