Penitentiary ideal and model of American Prisons
Penitentiaries started in the later part of the 1700s when the 1st center referred to as Walnut Street in Pennsylvania was constructed. This center was referred to as a place of brutal treatment to encourage reform, rehabilitation, and to work criminals and culprits for their offences and mischievous conduct. Due to politics and bureaucracy jails have completely changed and modified their labor, inner programs, and corporal penalty. The modern age penitentiaries are much more structured facilities using the capability for prisoners to join rehabilitation, treatment, and academic programs to assist them to change and go back to community. This report will talk about the following subjects; the beliefs in penitentiaries, objectives, variations, advantages and disadvantages, and the successful model of the penitentiary systems.
Characteristics of a penitentiary
