  3. 3. Universities of Brazil Finish High School – decision ofcareer; Choose the Universities where thestudent would like to study:-private universities: have to pay,normally per month and depends onnumber of classes;-public: don’t have to pay, resources arefrom the government.
  4. 4. Vestibular Each university has a specificentrance exam (vestibular); At ESALQ the exam is called“FUVEST”; Limited number of vacancies (40/yr).
  5. 5. Vestibular This test covers general knowledge,areas specific to the discipline,Portuguese; If you are approved, you areconsidered a freshman atESALQ/USP.

ESALQ/USP “Luiz de Queiroz” College ofAgriculture was established in 1901; 7 majors:- Agronomy (200 st/yr) since 1901;- Forest Engineering (40 st/yr) since1971;- Economy (40 st/yr) since1998;- Food Sciences (40 st/yr) since 2001;- Environment Management (40 st/yr) since2002;- Biology (40 st/yr) since 2002;- Administration (40 st/yr) since 2013.

  8. 8. Forest Engineering at ESALQ 5 year program = 10 semesters; Minimum of 250 credits; Minimum 15 credits per semester. 50 required classes about 200 credits; Optional subjects available; Many students do internships;

  10. 10. Evaluation criteria Variable, but normally the students havetwo or three tests during the semester; Assigned projects andlaboratory reports.
  11. 11. Evaluation criteria Students have to get a minimum of 5.0(out of 10.0) to pass all courses; Required attendance is 75% in allcourses; Some of them have pre-requisites, forexample:- To do Forest Ecology you have to takeForestry Introduction before.

Public Universities are paid bythe government;Public Universities are paid bythe student;Undergraduate degree inforestry is 4 year program;Undergraduate degree inforestry is a 5 year program;Classes have a duration of 50minutes, semester 15 weeks;Most classes have a durationof 4 hours, once a week,semester is 20 weeks;To conclude the course youneed to have a minimum of 250credits.To conclude the course youneed to have a minimum of 125credits.U.S. SYSTEM BRAZILIAN SYSTEM
