Biometrics

  1. 1. By:- SANOJ ( MU10CO13)
  2. 2. Definition Biometrics is the technique of identification or verification of humans by their physiological and behavioral characteristics. ThreeWays of identification or verification:
  3. 3.  Physiological Examples-face Recognition, fingerprints , hand geometry and iris Recognition etc.  Behavioral Examples-key stroke , signature and voice.
  4. 4.  Universality  Uniqueness  Permanence  Collectability  Performance
  5. 5. Biometrics system consists of:  Scanner or reader  Software  Database
  6. 6. For fingereprint Recognition look at:  Friction Ridges  Core  Crossover  Delta  Island  Ridge Ending  Pore
  7. 7. Three basic patterns of fingerprint:
  8. 8. Minutiae:  It uses ridge ending ,bifurcations of a person’s finger to plot points known as Minutiae. Finger image Finger image + Minutiae Minutiae
  9. 9. It involves:  Facial features  Face geometry Principle:  Analysis of unique shape ,pattern and positioning of Facial features.
  10. 10. There are two ways of SignatureVerification  Static/Off-line  Dynamic/on-line Principal:  The movement of the pen during the signing process rather than the static image of signature.
  11. 11.  It is based on behavioral characteristics .  Also called speaker recognition.  Not same as speech recognition.  Popular and low cost but less accurate .
  12. 12.  More robust than other techniques  Availability: 24*7*365  More Convenient  More reliable
  13. 13.  The fingerprint of those people working in Chemical industries are often affected.  It found that with age ,voice of a person differs.  For people affected with diabetes , the eyes gets affected resulting in differences.  Biometrics is an expensive security solution.
