  • Peter von Hagenbach, was the first international war crimes trial. He was convicted and beheaded for crimes that "he as a knight was deemed to have a duty to prevent", although he had argued that he was only "following orders". This is a picture of his trial and Hagenbach’s coat of arms.
  • For example: ▪wounded or sick fighters
    ▪prisoners of war
    ▪civilians
    ▪medical and religious personnel
Grave Branches-The most serious crimes are termed grave breaches. Grave breaches of the Third and Fourth Geneva Conventions include the following acts if committed against a person protected by the convention:▪willful killing, torture or inhuman treatment, including biological experiments▪willfully causing great suffering or serious injury to body or health▪compelling one to serve in the forces of a hostile power▪willfully depriving one of the right to a fair trial. Also considered grave breaches of the Fourth Geneva Convention are the following:▪taking of hostages▪extensive destruction and appropriation of property not justified by military necessity and carried out unlawfully and wantonly▪unlawful deportation, transfer, or confinement.
Today they still protect citizens in war zones
    Wars like Afghanistan and Iraq
  • -But the true numbers are around 300,000 people.
    - A genocide is a deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group.
-50,000 citizens died in an 18 month period solely because of starvation.
  • The government are the people who are creating all this damage and killing so many people. So it is harder for the African Muslim’s because they have no one to represent them or stand up for them.
  • Convited of killing a 16 year old Iraqi when fighting in Baghdad. He was sentenced to one years confinment and demoted to private and given bad conduct discharge.
Green was charged with raping and killing a 14 year old girl. Also killing her six year old sister, her father, and mother.Faced the death penalty but now is just in jail.
Private Spielman was sentenced by a court martial to 110 years in prison, with the possibility of parole after 10 years. He was convicted of rape, conspiracy to commit rape, housebreaking with intent to rape and four counts of felony murder. Spielman had earlier pleaded guilty to lesser charges of conspiracy to obstructing justice, arson.
Claus as found guilty of maltreatment and assault against an Afghanistan detainee who later died.He only received a five month jail sentence.

  • Capital punishment is also known as the death penalty and used to be given to those who commit war crimes. Most of the times the war criminals are sent to life out the rest of their life at a national prison.
Because of this they are sentenced to a certain amount of years in prison.
The picture is of the Nuremberg trials after the Holocaust. They put the Nazis on trail for killing so many innocent people.
  • -is a permanent tribunal to prosecute individuals for genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and the crime of aggression.
-The court came into being on 1 July 2002
The map represents the countries who have joined the court.
-To date, the court has opened investigations into five situations: Northern Uguanda, the Congo, Darfur and the Republic of Kenya.
  • -A UN Human Rights Council team has criticized both Hamas and Israel for their failure to investigate alleged war crimes in Gaza last year.
-Only junior Israeli officials were subjected to investigations, none of which were impartial
-Israel conducted investigations into many incidents, but only four resulted in criminal indictments, one of which led to a conviction for a credit card theft.”
-So in other words, Hamas and Isreal made no effort to convict the criminals.
    Benjamin Netanyahu
--is a professional assassin who should be tried in court for blockading Gaza and massacring innocent Palestinian women and children.
-Under Netanyahu administration, Israeli agents have delivered assassination attempts in Dubai killing a Palestinian official and also raided a Turkish humanitarian flotilla inside international waters killing 9 defenseless and half-asleep Turkish citizens who had plan to deliver food and medicine to besieged people of Gaza Strip.  According to Ahmadinejad (Iranian president), such atrocities against innocent civilians constitute war crime and therefore Netanyahu must be tried at an international court for his crimes.
