Net neutrality ppt

 1. 1. Net Neutrality
Denis He
Dominic Nelson
ZaynabHamidaldin
2. 2. What Is Net Neutrality?
It is similar to freedom of speech, because you still want to express your self in the Internet, confident that your message will not be blocked
3. 3. What Does That Mean?
If I send an email at 2:00.03 PM and you send another email at 2:00.09 PM, both emails will be sent based on first-come-first-serve as well as have the same speed.
If I want to use, Vonage to make a call you will not be cut off just because it’s a competitor to your internet service provider.
4. 4. Why Should You Care?
Internet Service Providers want to make more money by charging companies like Vonage, or websites like Facebook to make the bits of information travelling on the internet faster for their clients, slower for their competitors, or even block the bits travelling
Imagine it taking 20 minutes for you to update your status. Would you go to another social network?
5. 5. Who is talking about Net Neutrality
FCC - want to impose a law for net neutrality
Republicans – against regulation of the internet
Moderates – want net neutrality, but some censorship
6. 6. What You Can Do
Take a stand
Call your senator
A bill is being voted on right now that gives the power of internet regulation to the FCC
7. 7. So, what are you going to do?
If we don’t do something about it now, then ISP will control data coming in and out of their servers/cable and they will make our decisions for us. Today, right now, this is the time when you can make a difference.
Today is when you choose how you want the Internet to be tomorrow
