Last Action Hero Trailer InfoPersonality FAQ Blogs:http://JesseRegan.comhttp://VivianSchiller.comLisa asks…Can’t remember a name of a really good Sci-Fi Film.?I really want to try and find this Sci-Fi film basically from what i can remember some guy lives ona trailer park and likes to play this game quite a bit then it all comes true and this Green facedguy comes down and says you need to help us. Then he gets in this really weird spaceshipwhich goes like anti clockwise and clockwise it can fully rotate i thought it was something likeThe Last Action Hero but its not that its something along those lines… Anyone know what filmim on about?Cheers!JamieJohn McTiernan Fans answers:The Last Star Fighter 1 / 11
  2. 2. Linda asks…Can you help me with improving my English Essay? Pt.3?My next observation is also a link but this time between by very first observation on Batman’squestioning doubt. This observation is also a lot to do with his doubt, but also, how he is now sounsure and so cloudy minded that he has to ask someone else for reassurance for what he isdoing. It takes place in Batman’s underground layer, he at this time has returned to his BruceWayne characteristics, wearing at suit with his hair done just as usual, however his face doesnot seem to fit his usual charming style. He instead of a cheeky grin he is wearing a pleadingfulface, like as he speaks he is begging for Alfred – his butler – to agree with him, to reassure him.“People are dying for what you have me do” Bruce appeals to Alfred however the response isnot the let me off the hook answer Bruce was begging for as Alfred simply replies: “Endure” ashe knows that people are dying for Batman’s heroism but knows the outcome will be greaterthan the current losses. However this shot does still leave a hard-hitting affect on the audience,Batman is now so unsure he is having to ask someone else for answers, a action hero issupposed to always be sure of his convictions and stick by them, so for Batman to completelygo against that is an extremely challenging claim and that is only heightened by the supportingnotion of conflict in Batman. The next shot is in fact a supporting shot as it shows James’s fearlessness and one of the filmsmany impossible stunts, all parts of a true action hero. The shot is James on a dirt bike jumpingfrom a dock to a boat at least 3 metres away with perfect execution, the shot is bathed in brightsunlight and a small glimmer from the sea below him, at this time the suspense is broken andloud action packed beats have begun, added by a loud revving engine from the dirt bike. Thecamera work is also interesting as it is a tracing shot of James from behind and slightly above tohelp show to put you there in the action but the camera is also on a slight tilt shown by theunlevel horizon, this has been done to disorientate you to again make the jump moreextraordinary. This has the affect of bringing back the old audience, were people might be putoff by the deep thought involved attempting to decrypt this trailer, it also caters for them withthese impossible jumps huge gun fights and mammoth explosions. This helps support JamesBond being an action hero, and raking in as much profit as possible by covering all audiences. 2 / 11
  3. 3. The Dark Knight is the home of my next observation and shows the Batman still cares forGotham City, even after all the things he has put it through, and all the things it has put himthrough. It is a supporting notion of protection and security. It is of batman stood on one of thehighest building in Gotham City, as he watches over the city alone. The only light shown is fromoffice lights and moonlight and therefore there is no detailing on anything, he suspenseful musicis still building at this point, and the camera shot used is a establishing shot zooming in whilespinning of Batman. The dialogue from the Joker is “See to them your just a freak”, howeverthis dialogue I not entirely essential to this shot, however it does help support what Gothamthinks of him, so for him to still stand over Gotham like a silent protector caring for the city saysa lot about the Batman. The effect this has is to help show that even though Batman is seriouslythinking of giving up he doesn’t want to let Gotham city fall to the Joker, and this hugelysupports Batman as an action hero. This is for my GCSE English media coursework and i’d really appreciate it if someone couldhelp me out fixing grammar, punctuation, spelling, any syntax improvements, or if you think icould put a point across better or even just a sentance you’ve picked out which could berephrased, all would be welcome. I’m aiming for at least and A, this was last marked at a B, soany improvements would be useful, it’s due in on the 14th (Monday).I will make improvements of my own, I’m not just getting all of you to do it, it is just better tohave someone else look it over as well, as i might miss something. This is only part of it, you can look over the other parts if you think enough has been said. This is the essay question by the way: ‘Write for a teenage magazine, a review of the trailers“The Dark Knight” and “Quantum of Solace” commenting on how they support and challengeour notion of a conventional action hero‘John McTiernan Fans answers:SORRY 3 / 11
  4. 4. Carol asks…Why do people think the movie *Avatar* is racist? Why the hell do people think the Avatar movie is *racist*? Every time a new movie comes outwith a *white* hero people automatically clame the movie is racist and they start crying becausethe hero is a white person. Why do people always protest on these kinds of movies? I’ve readthe news artical about the Avatar movie on yahoo’s news page and it was saying that peopleclaim Avatar to be racist, etc. I’m white and I am not racist but I think the whole racist dealabout this movie is complete bullshit. Why can’t people enjoy a good movie any more? Why do people have to ruin it for others? Itwas just like when the movie Angels and Demons that came out not too long ago. Allot ofreligious people were protesting about the movie saying it was worshiping the devil orsomething. I’m afraid if Avatar The Last Airbender Live action movie going to come out I amafraid that people are going to protest about that movie too since it’s based on Asian cultureand the hero that play’s Aang is *white* right now all of this drama is really starting to creep meout.I hope no one feels offended with this question. I am just trying to make a statement. All of thisdrama needs to stop. I’ve even read Avatar movie trailer comments on youtube and I seepeople calling the movie racist. Why must there be so much drama to this? Have you everheard. *Shut up just enjoy the movie?*http://news.discovery.com/human/avatar-racism-james-cameron.htmlHere is a link to a arctical I found.John McTiernan Fans answers:1. Avatar also portrays a Latina, an Indian, and an African American in heroic roles defendingthe Navi. The character Trudy Chacon, played by Michelle Rodriguez, is a Latina. Actually 4 / 11
  5. 5. Rodriguez’s character didn’t need 4 months living with the Navi seeing life through their eyes, and to fall in love to convince her to respect other races. She quickly identified right from wrong, and unlike Jake Sully, she died for her beliefs. Then there’s Dr Max Patel, an Indian actor, seems to lack any possible skill to fight butnevertheless goes up against marines and an entire security force without ever having met aNavi. Next is Private Fike, played by the African American actor Sean Moran, who also joinedthe Navis coalition. And then there is Norm Spellman, played by Joel David Moore, whorespected the Navi before even arriving on the moon, which was a 5 year journey.I believe Cameron made these character castings from diverse ethnic and racial groupsdeliberately to show that the movie is not about race but rather about respecting others, choosing right from wrong, and the process that different people go through to reach thatepiphany to make the right choices. For Jake it took the whole movie, for Trudy it took one badorder, for Dr Patel it took the indignation of his colleagues, and for Norm it happened so early onwe don’t even know why.2. Avatar doesn’t use the recipe of a white messiah as did Dances with Wolves, District 9,Pocahontas, or even the Last Samurai. Instead Cameron relied heavily on Titanic’s successfulrecipe to tell the story of Avatar. Cameron could have filmed Avatar and Titanic as epic disaster, focusing only on cinematography, special affects, and a tremendous tragedy. In essence theNavi or Ewya could have been the hero’s alone, and we could have seen the movie throughtheir eyes. But without RDA’s defectors Avatar would have been another “Natives massacrethe white guy’s” movie. Further, the film would have lost the theme that we must all worktogether in a diverse world to help each other.Like in Titanic the RDA force is led by seemingly arrogant men with their advanced ships, afuturistic complex, and huge mining trucks which they use almost blindly to obtain the mineral“unobtanium”. But like in Titanic we witness this movie behind a love story. Cameron againcasts a woman of privilege and nobility in an arranged engagement meet a man from a differentworld. Initially both Rose and Omaticaya want nothing to do with Jack or Jake but it’s their ownleaders who insist on them spending time together. Jake seems to have nothing to offerOmaticaya who is betrothed to the future King. In many ways Cameron shows the Navi and therich of Titanic go through similar turmoil as lovely heroine chooses a men so common theyseem like they are from different worlds. Yet these women see their soul mates for what’s onthe inside, their knack for adventure, and their passion for life even.3. Some that cry out that Avatar is racist seem to think the Navi resembles Africans due to theirbraids, or native American Indians because of the conflict over land rights. Who wouldn’t wantto be represented by noble Navi? However Princess Omaticaya’s prefix to her name is from theOmati tribe in Papua New Guinea. Greenpeace has been documenting the plight of the Omatiwho live in a lush rain forest prone to illegal and unethical logging (Does this sound familiar?).And while some cite that Omaticaya is played by an African American actress, it’s also true thatJake Scully is played by an Australian. If Avatar is a metaphor for a current social conflict then we should turn to the plight of the 5 / 11
  6. 6. Indigenous tribes of Papua New Guinea. To watch this narrated slide show go to http://www.greenpeace.org/international/photosvideos/greenpeace-photo-essays/paradise-lost-papua-new-guin. If we watch the slide show you will see whites trying to save the Omati from illegal logging. The Omati are in canoes, some with braids, and one in a loin cloth. So these images in the filmare not exclusive to racism towards Africans.4. It’s not just about Jake, and the transformation he goes through that leads him to respect theNavi. Even the Navi seem to have some strong feelings towards the humans themselves whichleads to an inability to respect them. So in seeing Jake transform in his respect we also see theNavi do the same. We wouldn’t be able to see this type of conflict within the Navi tribe withoutsomeone like Jake’s character. While some may see Jake called a traitor by the humansecurity chief, he is also called a traitor by the Navi. Even Princess Omaticaya calls him a traitorand left him to die at one point because she blamed him for the actions of the RDA when herhomeland was destroyed.Clearly respect goes both ways and the Navi do not seem to be quite so noble when weconsider that the princess did intend to kill Jake until her God intervened. And we also see thatwhen she does follow her faith, she still insults Jake calling him a baby, and fights with herparents because she doesn’t even want to be around him. It may have been easy for some tosee the racist humans and how the Navi were shown in loin clothes as savage, but not so fastwere complaints that the Navi themselves were racist against humans who they saw them asignorant and baby like. Further the movie shows the Navi as noble like and the RDA leadershipas greedy and unethical.5. While it’s quick to for some to cry foul when a “white man” saves the native population. Noone seems to be crying foul depicting white men destroy a culture. Imagine, if the moviedepicted the company headed by an Arab and the security chief and Jake Scully clearly asArabs. Would critics cry that the movie is racist for having an Arabs save the native populationor would they call the producers racist for casting the leadership as heartless, cold, and greedycasting further negative stereotypes against Arabs and Muslims in general. Funny, how it’s notracist to show evil white men but it is racist to show a white man who can choose good over evil.6. Another issue that has come up is whether the movie promotes some form of nature worship. The Navi practice monotheism to a higher power called Ewya, which created all form of life forthe purpose of serving the Navi. Nature worship is seldom monotheistic if ever. In animismanimals are not even killed, but instead in Avatar, the animals are respected but killed for thepurpose of providing for the Navi’s needs. Further the Ewya doesn’t seem worshipped as anobject like the Planet or Sun above, or as a climate event such as thunder or lightning, wind orthe sea. Ewya is instead an all powerful higher force connected to all forms of life, a sort ofcreator of all who seems to be not an exclusive God to the Navi, meaning a universal Godwhom the Navi call “Ewya”. Ewya is also capable of granting a sort of spiritual immortalitywhich seems to go in line with the nature of heaven.Further Jakes character and lessons taught are similar one found in the Bible, the Koran, andthe Talmud. Jake is of two worlds, and is somewhat destined to live a dead life in the human 6 / 11
  7. 7. world. He is rejected by the godless human leaders who clearly are villainous and act with evil.He turns down a later offer for life on Earth and riches in order to do the right thing. The movieshows a clear line between good and evil. Jakes relationship with the Navi and with PrincessOmaticaya seems to be against their instinct but instead they turn to the will of a higher powerto guide them. These scenes show the importance and power of faith and prayer. When Jakedoes marry Omaticaya, their bond is considered monogamous, lifelong, and heterosexual; theyturn to a higher power to sanctify their bond, and for guidance in their relationship. While theNavi worship and think of Ewya as a living force, this merely lends credibility to the charactersand Navi themselves as being more realistic and historically accurate.Jake becomes inpatient waiting for Ewya and rather takes matter into his own hands by creatinga fighting force to save an entire people even though the Navi seem complacent to pray forguidance. He, and the Navi take time to talk to and pray to Ewya, and Ewya does answer them. The RDA is seen initiating unprovoked action against the Navi in both incidents. The RDA sendsa clearly superior force to wipe out the Navi and Jake as well as the Navi and RDA defectors failto stop the RDA force. In this way the Navi resistance is not enough even with some of the RDAtechnology at their disposal. Rather a higher power in this movie saves the day and answers thecall of prayer.8. While Essence and hundreds of other respectable journals and magazines and media outletshave run with coverage about the racism in Avatar, the source for almost all the discussiontraces back to a single article entitled “When Will White People Stop Making Movies Like‘Avatar’”. You can read Annalee Newitz’s article herehttp://io9.com/5422666/when-will-white-people-stop-making-movies-like-avatar. Annalee is anAmerican Journalist (Caucasian) whose key publications included the gem “White Trash: Raceand Class in America”. Newitz’s article reads more into the guilt that this movie feeds than theracism in it. In a manner of speaking Newitz is advocating that helping the Navi is simply noneof Jake’s business. However, Cameron casted Jake to reach the same conclusion that MartinNiemoller’s spoke of.9. To me the movie is a masterpiece because it touches heavy on the idea of respect of others, seeing beyond their skin, despite differences. It shows a spirit of brotherhood while clearlyidentifying the fight against good and evil. But most of all, I find it ironic that some wou 7 / 11

No joke, they are easily both in my top movies list, the question is,which is better? Ay this point, we all know Christopher Nolan is a genius, but which did he trulydirect and write better? Here are my personal thoughts:DARK KNIGHT:Pros: Great acting, amazing action and special effects, great directing and screenwriting.Cons: Batman’s voice, can be a tad unrealistic at times (then again, it’s Batman, but Nolanwas going for a more realistic touch to it rather than the 60s Batman).INCEPTION:Pros: Amazing story line, great acting, makes you think/mind-bending, unbelievable specialeffects, great cinematography, all the little details Nolan added in to enhance the movie evenmore (eg. Mal meaning evil, and Ariadne was a Greek goddess that led the hero through achallenging maze). 10 / 11
  11. 11. Cons: May be confusing to anyone seeing it for the first time, sometimes over-exaggerated. WINNER: Personally, I’m leading more towards Inception. I saw it seven times in the theater (can anyone top that?), and I think it is pure GENIUS. Dark Knight is not far from it, but I think Inception just really pulled through for me. I was excited for it from the teaser trailer that came out Christmas last year, and I was in no way disappointed. I think we can all agree both films are spectacular and will be classics when we are older. I would love to hear your guys’ thoughts on these movies, so please comment with your pros and cons of each, then which one you think is better. Can’t wait to hear what you guys think. -Ian John McTiernan Fans answers: Inception. Better plot, better acting, 100x more original. Still loved TDK though, I just prefer Inception. @PrettyKitty- The Wrestler > Gran Torino > The Dark Knight pretty sure you agreed with that on one of my questions…. Powered by Yahoo!
