Geographic Feature Effect on Egypt The Nile Valley of Egypt - Only strip of fertile land between 2 deserts People settled on the river because it was the only place to grow crops Nile Delta - Egypt’s gateway to the sea and nearby countries (for trade) Very fertile area for growing crops Fertile because of yearly flooding Vast Deserts - use of sand for preservation and building dry, hot = hard to travel to other parts of Africa kept Egypt and Nubia isolated Egypt and Nubia had to trade with each other The Cataracts - made travel by boat impossible limited the water traffic to Nubia Nubia grade had to be carried over land The Sources of the Nile - two sources came together to form the Nile these sources opened travel farther into Africa
