An interview of Dr. C.G. Singh (an ENT surgeon )
renowned in Anand.
The interview goes like this..
HELLO SIR, CAN YOU TELL US SOMETHING
ABOUT YOUR PROFESSION AND PROFESSIONAL
I have done my MBBS from Jamnagar and finished my
MS in ENT in 1995 from Jamnagar itself, after which I
was at the Karamsad medical college for 4 years. Since
1999, I have had couple of state and national awards
under my belt and life has been good
DOCTORS BEING A GREAT CONTRIBUTOR, WHAT
IS IMPORTANT TO YOU – THE ATTRIBUTE OR THE
VALUE OF THE SERVICE YOU PROVIDE ??
Its always the value that the product or an instrument
brings to you. Often there are instruments that are not
used all the time. But it is an absolute essential
requirement at the time when it may be required. For
e.g., you would all have experienced and heard of
patients getting sudden cardiac arrest, there is something
called defibrillator, which is an essential requirement in
the hospital. Inspite of the fact that I have never had the
need to use it. Similarly, talking about the value, the
patients look for in a hospital is the truthfulness and that
is what is more valuable.
WHAT ARE THE OBSTACLES OR FAILURES, YOU
HAVE EXPERIENCED IN YOUR PERSONAL LIFE
AND HOW DID YOU DEAL WITH IT ??
I am absolute positive figure. There is nothing that has
really made, me a failure, it has always been a learning
experience. If you are successful its great, if you fail there
is a lot to learn. So, no experience is a failure, it all
depends on the way you take it.
GIVE ME ONE OF THE INCIDENT WHERE YOU
CHOSE TO DO THE RIGHT THING, YOUR
INSPIRATION AND MOTIVATION BEHIND IT ??
I try to do the right thing, everyday in my practice, by the right
thing what I mean to say is that I donot do procedures, which I
think can be avoided. Therefore, it is always my attempt to
treat the patients with minimum medication, to give correct
medication. Often you could get those results with the
surgeries, but I always try to avoid that and leave it to the end,
so it is my conviction that surgery is the last option and never
first. Despite the fact that I may not be technically wrong in
doing the surgery. What I always try to do is be truthful and
despite the fact that if I operate I get a higher amount of
earning, by doing the procedure. But I always have this at the
back of my mind that if I can treat a patient without making
them spend extra money, that’s always better.
HOW IMPORTANT IS CONTRIBUTION FOR
SOCIETY, FOR YOU AND AT PERSONAL LEVEL??
Contributing to the society has always been throughout a
primary objectives why me have become a doctor. So
what is perceived by the common masses to be that
doctors are overcharging or they are not providing the
kind of services that they expect to provide at minimum
compensations. Therefore, it has become all over
important for all of us to appear to be more and more
upright and contributing more towards the society.
BEING AN INSPIRATION FOR ALL OF US, A
MESSAGE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE OUR GCET
STUDENTS TO HEAR AND BE A BETTER
From the experience that I have gathered over the years,
what I have very firmly come to realize is if you do things
which are true to your heart and your heart alone can
decide what is the right thing to you, success is an
assured by-product. But if you are looking for success
and if you are looking for mind free or such material gains
then often you may be mislead in your decisions and they
may be not occur well for you.
Do the right thing as far as your understanding goes and
success will certainly be yours.
