1. 1. SUCROSE (:
BY: Katie Halbruner
9/25/10
2. 2. What is Sucrose?

The single most abundant pure organic chemical in the world
 3. 3. Most widely known to people other then chemists.
 4. 4. Sucrose is a disaccharide meaning its made up of 2 sugars, they are:

Glucose, and Fructose

The elements that make up Sucrose are :
 5. 5. Carbon
 6. 6. Hydrogen
 7. 7. Oxygen

What functional groups does Sucrose contain?
Sucrose contains the Acetal functional group.
- A carbon ( RED )that
has two other
Oxygen's attached
Another functional group dealing with sucrose is hydroxyl.
It helps dissolve organic compounds such as sugar.
8. 8. What are two functions of Sucrose?
- It is used it food for sweetening .

It can also be used as a preservative when used in sufficient concentrations.
 9. 9. Plants intake sucrose to transfer them to nonphotosynthetic parts of that plant.

Why would I be a good parent?
-Sucrose is important to humans because it gives off energy.
-Helps the human brain function
-breaks down into glucose and fructose and is absorbed into the bloodstream to the intestine
-First storage molecule produced in all green plants
10. 10. THE END!
