  2. 3. <ul><li>PRAISE/DEVOTION – Seeing what’s true about God. </li></ul><ul><li>REPENTANCE/RENEWAL – Saying what’s true about myself. </li></ul><ul><li>COMMITMENT/SELF-GIVING – Surrendering my life. </li></ul>
  3. 4. <ul><li>There is an unrelenting affinity for the self bound up in the heart of every human being. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>This affinity threatens a sustainable spirit of self-giving. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>If left unchecked, this affinity wreaks havoc on relationships and destroys community. </li></ul></ul>
  4. 5. <ul><ul><li>Undermining this affinity will require at least four things: </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Rigorous self-examination. </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Honest self-appraisal. </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>A confessional lifestyle. </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>An active spirituality. </li></ul></ul></ul>
  5. 6. <ul><li>You love God just as much, and no more, than the person you love the least. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Romans 12.9-21 – the index of love is my action towards the other; feelings are too erratic and subjective to be reliable. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>1 John 4.20-21 – “…he who does not love his brother whom he has not seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.” </li></ul></ul>
