EXPERTISE Common Core State Standards (CCSS), Curriculum Design, Curriculum Theory, Education Research, Literacy, Interdisciplinary Education, Secondary Education, Teacher Education Dr. Rebecca Stanko is a Field Associate and Subject Matter Expert (SME) in PCG Education’s Education Consulting division. Most recently, Dr. Stanko directed content development for the 9-12 English Language Arts (ELA) EngageNY Curriculum, an Open Educational Resource based on the Common Core State Standards and developed in collaboration with the New York State Education Department and the Regents Research Fellows. Dr. Stanko also played a key role on the New York project team by creating and facilitating professional development for educators across the state to support implementation of the curriculum. She currently serves on the Prince George’s County Public Schools project team, conducting a curriculum audit for grades 9-12 ELA. EXPERIENCE Now based in New England, Dr. Stanko began her career in Pennsylvania, teaching English Language Arts at a small private high school where she immersed herself in differentiating content and instruction to serve the needs of the culturally and linguistically diverse student population. Her interest in curriculum design grew over the course of her tenure as a secondary English teacher at a public high school in Pennsylvania, as she became involved in district-level curriculum initiatives and developed new interdisciplinary instructional units and full-course curricula to address gaps in content and skills for her students. In 2007, Dr. Stanko relocated to New York City to pursue her doctorate in curriculum and teaching, during which time she consulted in curriculum development and taught ninth grade at a charter high school in Brooklyn. Just prior to joining PCG, Dr. Stanko worked for Boston Public Schools in the Department of English Language Arts and Literacy as a district instructional coach. Dr. Stanko has also designed and taught courses at the post-secondary and graduate levels in the areas of Composition and Rhetoric and Curriculum Theory and Design. EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS Dr. Stanko earned an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Teaching from Teachers College, Columbia University. In addition to her doctorate, she received an M.Phil. in Anglo-Irish Literature from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland and a B.A. in English and American Studies from Wellesley College. Dr. Stanko also holds a Massachusetts Secondary English Teaching license and a Pennsylvania Secondary English teaching certification.
