  4. 4.  Start with your 10 second statement  Clear, focused, and behavioral  Skills, issues, people, environment  Research  Find  people  who  are  most  like  your  statement…  don’t   worry about titles!  People want to help  Ask everyone you meet
  5. 5.  I  am  at  an  exciting  point…  I  can  do  whatever  I  want  with   my  life.    While  I  know  a  lot  about  myself,  I  don’t  know  all   the things people like me do and get paid!  I think you know more than I do about this field and I need your help.  May I meet with you for 1o minutes?  I will tell you one short story (10 second statement);  ask you one question;  and then leave you alone!
  6. 6.  TELL: Perfect for me is using my (skills) to work with theses (issues) with these (people) in this (environment).  ASK: Does this sound like you? ▪ YES: Tell me more about what you do! ▪ Or… ▪ NO: Do you know someone who has a life like I described AND can you introduce me to that person?!
  7. 7.  What is the difference between me today and me doing what you do professionally?  Leads to tactics  If you were me,  Where should I start?  What should I do?  Who should I talk to about the path?
  8. 8. What is the difference between me today and me working professionally? Where are the gaps? ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ Education Experience Certification Other? What are the solutions? ▪ Are they acceptable? ▪ Are they feasible?
  9. 9.  Ask more than one person  What do most people say?  Look at the data you gather  Do you believe them?  Make a plan  What must I do NEXT?  LinkedIn, Resume, Cover Letter, Application, Portfolio, etc to prepare for communicating with other people  Implement your plan
  10. 10.  Put your search into context  Focus on the inside: Who am I?  Move inside-out: Where do I fit?  Listen to experts: How do it get there?  You  have  to  do  this  by  yourself;  but  you  don’t   have to do it alone! Ask for help.
