  3. 3. Type of vaccine: Live attenuated vaccine Composition: Trivalent (TOPV) containing all the three strains POLIO VIRUS (Type: 1,2,3) Type- 1 > 106 CCID50 Type- 2 > 105 CCID50 Type -3 > 105.8 CCID50 PRESERVATIVE: Neomycin- 15mcg Kanamycin- 15mcg STABILIZED with: Mgcl3
  4. 4. STORAGE: at 40c DOSAGE: 2 drops = 0.1ml ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION: oral SCHEDULE: 0 dose (at birth) 6wks – 10wks – 14wks Booster dose at- 16-24month EFFICACY & PROTECTION RATE: 90-95% for life long.

Efficacy & Protection rate: 90-95% for life long Contraindication: acute illness, diarrhoea, leukemia & those on steroid. Public health importance: used for active immunization against polio

Prevents only paralysis (CNS invasion). Not useful in controlling epidemics. Dosing: 4 doses. Live vaccine Given orally Both systemic and local immunity. Prevents both paralysis and intestinal re-infection. Useful in controlling epidemic. Dosing: 0 – 6 – 10 - 14 wks – 16 to 24month total 5 doses.
