Renewable energy resources and improved energy efﬁciency
are the key to sustainable economic growth. The innovative ge-
neration, treatment and use of these energy sources is a special
service focus that generates state-of-art high-tech solutions through
strategic networking of research, laboratories and engineering at
PROFACTOR. It helps to fulﬁl the requirement expressed by in-
creasing numbers of companies for alternative energy sources
(with the beneﬁt of reducing CO2 emissions) and of achieving
a supply situation that is sustainable in the long term.
A multidisciplinary team of biotechnologists, chemists and process
engineers guarantees our partner companies an advantage with
efﬁcient production and use of gaseous energy carriers such as bio-
gas and bio-hydrogen – but also of other, future-oriented energy
sources and systems.
The PROFACTOR Group is at the cutting edge of applied research in the energy
sector within Austria; a fact that is evidenced by the following milestones:
2002 PROFACTOR achieves the ﬁrst combination
of biogas with fuel cells.
2005 PROFACTOR sets up the ﬁrst biogas
injection plant in Austria and Germany.
2008 PROFACTOR develops Europe’s most efﬁcient

Our research team grasps new ideas and develops
methods and equipment for the production of gase-
ous energy carriers via biological processes: for
example, maximizing the extraction of methane or
hydrogen from organic wastes. Undesirable com-
ponents such as hydrogen sulﬁde or siloxanes are
separated by means of biological methods.
