  5. 5. CALL TO WORSHIP Joy, wonder, delight – Doubt, peace, restlessness – Sorrow, contentedness, anxiety – Confidence, hope, pardon: We lay our hearts, full of these things, before our God. Unburdened and awaiting Let us worship God.
  6. 6. CALL TO WORSHIP We gather this day, and much is visible: Our smiles may show our joy; our eyes may speak of pain. We come to this time, seeking signs of the living God: We may sense something holy here; we may reach out to mystery. Will we see God today? Will our living make God’s love visible? Let us worship God, Holy Mystery, Eternal Love.
  7. 7. Lord, I Need You by Matt Maher
  8. 8. GREETING AND PRAYER OF THE DAY ➤ The grace of our Savior Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the presence of the Holy Spirit be with you all. ➤ And also with you. ➤ Let us pray. Bend your ear to our prayers, Lord Christ, and come among us. By your gracious life and death for us, bring light into the darkness of our hearts, and anoint us with your Spirit, for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
  9. 9. FIRST READING: EPHESIANS 5:8-14 ➤ For once you were darkness, but now in the Lord you are light. Live as children of light— 9 for the fruit of the light is found in all that is good and right and true. 10 Try to find out what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to mention what such people do secretly; 13 but everything exposed by the light becomes visible, 14 for everything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, ➤ “Sleeper, awake! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
  10. 10. PSALM 23 (LET’S READ THIS TOGETHER) The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy[e] shall follow me all the days of my life and I shall dwell[f] in the house of the Lord forever.
  11. 11. GOSPEL READING: LUKE 5:18-26 18 Just then some men came, carrying a paralyzed man on a bed. They were trying to bring him in and lay him before Jesus;[a] 19 but finding no way to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and let him down with his bed through the tiles into the middle of the crowd[b] in front of Jesus. 20 When he saw their faith, he said, “Friend,[c] your sins are forgiven you.” 21 Then the scribes and the Pharisees began to question, “Who is this who is speaking blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
  12. 12. GOSPEL READING: LUKE 5:18-26 When Jesus perceived their questionings, he answered them, “Why do you raise such questions in your hearts? 23 Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Stand up and walk’? 24 But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the one who was paralyzed—“I say to you, stand up and take your bed and go to your home.” 25 Immediately he stood up before them, took what he had been lying on, and went to his home, glorifying God. 26 Amazement seized all of them, and they glorified God and were filled with awe, saying, “We have seen strange things today.”

  27. 27. AND THE PEOPLE STAYED HOME And the people stayed home. And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still. And listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows. And the people began to think differently. And the people healed. And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal. When the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully as they had been healed. -Kitty O’Meara
