  • 1) In today’s growing economy drinking water shortage is one of the major problem faced by all. 2) All corporate offices are force to use BMC WATER / TANKER WATER or Use Bottled water
  • Good quality drinking water is free from disease causing organisms, harmful chemical substances and radioactive matter, taste good, is aesthetically appealing and is free from objectionable colour or odour.
  • Especially in India, where contaminated water continues to bring down millions with diseases such as diarrhea, dysentery, typhoid, jaundice and gastro-enteritis.
  • At home most people are forced to either boil or install purifier. While traveling or eating out in restaurants, buying bottled water has become necessity. This need has seen an explosion of companies marketing "safe drinking water" in bottles across the country.
  • Bottled water is usually potable. Its depends on manufacturer, for example International brand like Aquafina, use the best technology available to ensure that every drop they supply is pure. Then there are local brands where the quality standard may be lower.
  • Well the short answer is they are both unhealthy. One of the most ironic parts of the bottled water tragedy is that the water bottling industry gets the water free, filter it , bottles it and sell it back to us.
  • Are consumer getting value for money ? Almost all brand label their products as “germ free” and “bacteria free” . But the fact is something different. No brand was free from bacteria thought all were found to be non-pathogenic. In other words, these bacteria do not cause any disease. Another interesting finding was that same brand bottled in different parts of the country showed disparity in their composition and quality. So should these brands be allowed to be sold in a single name?
  • Problems with bottled water are way more serious. Bottled water has chemicals that leach into water from the plastic bottle. The chemicals from the plastic in the water will cause cells in your body to mutate and form cancerous cells
  • 1)Because the source of water is not constant and so neither is the quality Therefore, even though filtration is cost effective, it’s harder to implement good results.
  • These dispensers are the main cause of contamination. Dispenser is a common breeding ground for bacteria since the dispensers are not only very rarely cleaned but also very difficult to clean.
  • 1) Temperature: The room temperature is the ideal temperature for growth . 2) Moisture: The water provides a suitable medium for the growth of most microorganism. 3) Time: There is plenty of time available for bacterial growth. 4) In ideal conditions bacteria will grow and multiply by dividing into two every 20 minutes. After 6 hours, in ideal conditions, one bacterial cell could become 131,072 bacteria.
  • Which results in cross – contamination Recently our lab has compiled results from 100 dispenser from different locations using different brands from bottled water.
  • More than 60% of water collected from these dispensers were not potable. The contaminated samples showed no direct co- relation to the brand of the water used. The non contaminated samples had a direct corelation with regular testing and regular effective testing cleaning to the dispensers.
  • Chemical/ Physical parameters include heavy metals, trace organic compounds, total suspended solids (TSS) and turbidity. .
  • Microbiological parameters include Coliform bacteria, E. coli , Pseudomonas aeruginosa , Salmonella typhi and other specific bacteria.
