High Service Pumps are widely used in wide varity of water utilities. These pumps typically have Very great in siz. The pumping capacity and are driven with high horsepower motors. While they normally operate reliably, unchecked backpressure can lead to severe pump damage when a pump is started during a reverse rotation condition.

To help prevent this problem, Precision Robotics & Automation developed the PRD-2K to detect shaft reversal in pumps. The system features a failsafe reversal switch that constantly monitors a pump shaft to assure that it's turning in the correct rotational direction.
Relay contacts in the unit can be used to electrically lock out the starting circuit of the pump to prevent accidental start-up during a condition of reverse rotation. The device is supplied with a custom-machined split collar magnetic pulser wrap that is designed to clamp tightly around the pump shaft.

Because the PRD-2K is failsafe, a power failure would de-energize the relay. This means the starting circuit to the pump motor would be disabled. Upon restoration of power, the PRD-2K relay resets but would instantaneously switch out again if it detected a shaft reversal, thus preventing the pump motor from starting during a reversal condition.

It also displays the speed of rotation of the shaft in RPM in both side.

During operation, the PRD-2K fail-safe reversal detection Indicator constantly and carefully monitors a shaft or any rotating object to ensure that it is turning in the correct rotational direction. It also displays the speed of rotation of the shaft in RPM in both side. Precision Relay controller in the unit can be used to interlock the starting circuit of the pump to prevent accidental startup during a condition of reverse rotation. Intelligent Microprocessor continuously monitors incoming signal from a speed sensor. A fail-safe relay output can be electrically interlocked directly to the motor starter circuit and for the pump and another energizes the hooter for audio visual warning. Sensor Installation The Speed sensor is supplied with a mounting bracket, collar, and set screw for gap distance adjustment. Sensors should be installed allowing the center of the magnets to pass in front of the center of the sensing head during rotation. The gap distance (A) is dependent on the pulse generator being used. When using a standard 4" Pulser Disc, the center of the magnetized area of the disc (B) is 1-3/4" from the center hole of the disc.
