  2. 2. Romans 12:11 (NIV) Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. (HCSB) Do not lack diligence; be fervent in spirit; serve the Lord. (NJB) In the service of the Lord, work not halfheartedly but with conscientiousness and an eager spirit.
  3. 3. Romans 12:11 (NLT) Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. (ASND) Huwag maging tamad sa halip ay maging masigasig. Maging maningas kayo sa Espiritu, na naglilingkod sa Panginoon.
  4. 4. ZEALOUSNESS • The pattern for life is zealousness not laziness. • “Zealousness” = speed, haste, diligence, passion, seriousness, urgency, eagerness, dedication, readiness. • Zealousness maintains the fire for the things of the kingdom. • Spiritual Zealousness pursues divine directives in spite of discouraging difficulties.
  5. 5. Be Zealous not Lazy!
  6. 6. BIBLICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE LAZY PERSON 1. He won’t acknowledge his laziness and produces ample justification for his lack of zealousness. He can always think of good logical excuses for failure to act.
  7. 7. Proverbs 26:16 A lazy person says, "I am smarter than everyone else." Proverbs 22:13 Don't be so lazy that you say, "If I go to work, a lion will eat me!" EXCUSES -- Had a long day. There will be time later. Too busy for Lord now. I put in my devotions last week. I’ll pray tonight
  8. 8. BIBLICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE LAZY PERSON 2. He fails to value the importance of time and seasons. Proverbs 20:4 Those too lazy to plow in the right season will have no food at the harvest.
  9. 9. BIBLICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE LAZY PERSON 3. He loves sleep. Proverbs 6:9-11 How long will you lie there doing nothing at all? When are you going to get up and stop sleeping? Sleep a little. Doze a little. Fold your hands and twiddle your thumbs. Suddenly, everything is gone, as though it had been taken by an armed robber.
  10. 10. BIBLICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE LAZY PERSON 3. He loves sleep. Proverbs 19:15 If you are lazy and sleep your time away, you will starve.
  11. 11. BIBLICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE LAZY PERSON 4. He lives in an unreal world of wishes (desires) and unfulfilled dreams. Proverbs 13:4 No matter how much you want, laziness won't help a bit, but hard work will reward you with more than enough.
  12. 12. BIBLICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE LAZY PERSON 5. He fails to complete tasks or maintain what he has. 6. He cannot be trusted to carry out responsibilities. 7. He doesn’t realize his state or sense a need to change.
  13. 13. CONSEQUENCES OF LAZINESS 1. A difficult life. 2. Poverty. 3. Forced to always work for others. 4. Unprepared for the coming of the Lord. Etc...
  14. 14. DEVELOPING SPIRITUAL ZEALOUSNESS 1. Discern the PATTERNS of zealousness by observation. Proverbs 6:6-8 You lazy people can learn by watching an anthill. Ants don't have leaders, but they store up food during harvest season.
  15. 15. DEVELOPING SPIRITUAL ZEALOUSNESS There are four things on earth that are small but unusually wise: (Proverbs 30:24-28) Ants—they aren't strong, but they store up food all summer. Hyraxes—they aren't powerful, but they make their homes among the rocks. Locusts—they have no king, but they march in formation. Lizards—they are easy to catch, but they are found even in kings' palaces.
  16. 16. Priorities - The ant knows what needs to be done. Time Management - The ant knows when things should be done. Motivation - The ant knows why things need to be done. • The ant works without constant supervision. The ant plans and works for the future without the constant need for immediate gratification. The ant completes what is necessary immediately.
  17. 17. DEVELOPING SPIRITUAL ZEALOUSNESS 2. Discern the PURPOSE of zealousness from the Scripture. • Zealous Love for the Lord. Deuteronomy 6:5 And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.
  18. 18. • Zealous in Obedience. Psalms 119:4 You have ordered us always to obey your teachings. • Zealous in Prayer Colossians 4:2a Never give up praying. • Zealous in doing 90 days challenge.
  19. 19. Conclusion • The rewards are worth it. • REWARDS OF ZEALOUSNESS • A Rich Life Proverbs 10:4 • Authority, leadership - Proverbs 10:24; Revelation 3:21 • A Satisfied Life – Proverbs 13:4 • Creativity and Resourcefulness - Proverbs 21:5 • Honor and Respect – Proverbs 22:29 • Approval from God - 2 Timothy 2:15
