The Gracious Spirit in my Obedience

  1. 1. The Gracious Spirit in my Obedience.
  2. 2. 1John 3:21-24 (NIV) v.21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God v.22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him.
  3. 3. 1John 3:21-24 (NIV) v.23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. v.24 Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us:
  6. 6. Obedient Biblical Characters: The Lord rewarded those who were willing to follow His commands: 1.Noah’s obedience saved his family from the flood. 2.Abraham’s obedience resulted in his becoming the father of a great nation, God’s chosen people, Israel. 3.Moses led the Israelites out of Egyptian bondage. 4.Joshua won the battle of Jericho by following God’s supernatural strategy.
  7. 7. Obedient Biblical Characters: The Lord rewarded those who were willing to follow His commands: 5.David refused to harm Saul, the anointed king. 6.Jehoshaphat relied on God’s word when the Ammonites attacked Judah. 7.Nehemiah boldly asked the Babylonian king for supplies to rebuild Jerusalem and received all he needed, including guards to help him safely reach the city.
  8. 8. Obedient Biblical Characters: The Lord rewarded those who were willing to follow His commands: 8.Daniel and his three friends refused to eat meat because it was not prepared according to Hebrew dietary laws. Yet they were healthier than all the other young men.  9.Peter and the apostles refused to stop preaching about Jesus, even though they were threatened with flogging and imprisonment.
  9. 9. Haggai 1:12-14 NIV v.12 Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the whole remnant of the people obeyed the voice of the LORD their God and the message of the prophet Haggai, because the LORD their God had sent him. And the people feared the LORD. v.13 Then Haggai, the LORD's messenger, gave this message of the LORD to the people: "I am with you," declares the LORD.
  10. 10. Haggai 1:12-14 NIV v.14 So the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of the whole remnant of the people. They came and began to work on the house of the LORD Almighty, their God,
  11. 11. What kind of OBEDIENCE the Holy Spirit wants from me?
  12. 12. 1. Obeying WHOLEHEARTEDLY. Numbers 32:10-12 (NIV) v.10 The LORD's anger was aroused that day and he swore this oath: v.11 'Because they have not followed me wholeheartedly, not one of the men twenty years old or more who came up out of Egypt will see the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob-- v.12 not one except Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua son of Nun, for they followed the LORD wholeheartedly.'
  13. 13. A life with WHOLEHEARTED obedience. 1Chronicles 29:19 (NLT) Give my son Solomon the wholehearted desire to obey all Your commands, laws, and decrees, Ephesians 6:7 (NIV) Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men,
  14. 14. A life with WHOLEHEARTED obedience. Romans 6:17 (NLT) Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now you wholeheartedly obey this teaching we have given you.
  15. 15. A life with WHOLEHEARTED obedience. God wants your WHOLEHEARTED obedience NOT halfhearted obedience! Romans 12:11a (NJB) In the service of the Lord, work not halfheartedly   Mark 12:30 (NIV) Love the Lord your God with ALL your HEART and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all
  16. 16. 2. Obeying FULLY. Hebrews 5:8 (NLT) Even though Jesus was God's Son, He learned obedience from the things He suffered.   Philippians 2:8 (NIV) And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross!
  17. 17. A life with FULL obedience. God wants your FULL obedience NOT partial obedience.   Deuteronomy 11:1 (NLT) "You must love the LORD your God and obey all His requirements, decrees, regulations, and commands.
  18. 18. A life with FULL obedience. Deuteronomy 12:32 (NLT ) "So be careful to obey all the commands I give you. You must not add anything to them or subtract anything from them.   Matthew 28:20 (NLT) Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
  19. 19. Blessings in Obedience A. Peace, joy, and contentment. These internal qualities often result when we step out in faith and obey God. B. Spiritual growth. We will have more faith to obey the next time God challenges us to do something. C. Eternal blessings. When we stand before God on judgment day, we will be rewarded for our obedience.
  20. 20. CHALLENGE:  To obey God, we must be willing to make the necessary adjustments, changes, or sacrifices required.  Halfhearted and partial obedience are still DISOBEDIENCE.  There’s NO blessing in disobedience.  The TRUE obedience is your WHOLEHEARTED and FULL obedience.  We will give to God a full measure of obedience, and we will receive a full measure of blessing.
  21. 21. Ezekiel 36:27 (TMSG) I'll put my Spirit in you and make it possible for you to do what I tell you and live by my commands.
