PRAY FOR COMPASSION

  1. 1. PRAY FOR COMPASSION
  2. 2. James 5:11 As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.
  3. 3. Psalm 103:13 As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him.
  4. 4. WHY PRAY FOR COMPASSION?
  5. 5. Romans 9:15 For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.
  6. 6. Romans 9:18 Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.
  7. 7. WHY PRAY FOR COMPASSION?
  8. 8. TO WHOM WILL YOU SHOW YOUR COMPASSION?
  9. 9. 2 Samuel 21:7 The king spared Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, because of the oath before the LORD between David and Jonathan son of Saul.
  10. 10. Exodus 2:6 She opened it and saw the baby. He was crying, and she felt sorry for him. "This is one of the Hebrew babies," she said.(NIV)
  11. 11. 2 Samuel 21:7 The king spared Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, because of the oath before the LORD between David and Jonathan son of Saul.
  12. 12. Luke 10:27 He answered: "`Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, `Love your neighbor as yourself.”
  13. 13. Luke 10:25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?“ Luke 10:26 "What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?“ Luke 10:27 He answered: "`Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, `Love your neighbor as yourself.”
  14. 14. Luke 10:28 "You have answered correctly," Jesus replied. "Do this and you will live.“ Luke 10:29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?“ Luke 10:30 In reply Jesus said: "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead.
  15. 15. Luke 10:31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. Luke 10:32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. Luke 10:33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.
  16. 16. Luke 10:34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. Luke 10:35 The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. `Look after him,' he said, `and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’ Luke 10:36 "Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?"
  17. 17. Luke 10:37 The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him." Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise."
  18. 18. WHEN TO GIVE COMPASSION?
  19. 19. Matthew 20:29 As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. Matthew 20:30 Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!“ Matthew 20:31 The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!"
  20. 20. Matthew 20:32 Jesus stopped and called them. "What do you want me to do for you?" he asked. Matthew 20:33 "Lord," they answered, "we want our sight.“ Matthew 20:34 Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.
  21. 21. WHY GIVE COMPASSION?
  22. 22. Matthew 5:7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
  23. 23. HOW TO GIVE COMPASSION?
  24. 24. MOTHER THERESA OF CALCUTA AT TODAY THE POOR ARE HUNGRY FOR BREAD AND RICE LOVE FOR THE LIVING WORD OF GOD, THE POOR ARE THIRSTY – FOR WATER AND FOR PEACE; TRUTH AND JUSTICE; THE POOR ARE NAKED FOR CLOTHES, FOR HUMAN DIGNITY AND COMPASSION FOR THE NAKED SINNER.
  25. 25. AT THE POOR ARE HOMELESS – FOR SHELTER MADE OF BRICKS AND FOR A JOYFUL HEART THAT UNDERSTANDS, COVERS, LOVES. THEY ARE SICK – FOR MEDICAL CARE – AND FOR THAT GENTLE TOUCH AND WARM SMILE. AT THE SHUT IN, THE UNWANTED, THE UNLOVED, THE ALCOHOLICS, THE DYING DESTITUTES, THE ABANDONED AND THE LONELY, THE OUTCASTS AND THE UNTOUCHABLES, THE LEPROSY SUFFERERS, ALL THOSE WHO ARE BURDEN TO THE HUMAN SOCIETY, WHO HAVE LOST ALL HOPE AND FAITH IN LIFE – WHO HAVE FORGOTTEN HOW TO SMILE -- WHO HAVE LOST THE SENSIBILITY OF THE WARM HAND TOUCH OF LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP.
  26. 26. AT THEY TO US FOR COMFORT – IF WE TURN OUR BACK ON THEM, WE TURN IT ON CHRIST, AT THE HOUR OF OUR DEATH WE WILL BE JUDGED IF WE HAVE RECOGNIZED CHRIST IN THEM, AND WHAT WE HAVE DONE FOR AND TO THEM.
  27. 27. Matthew 12:38 Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, "Teacher, we want to see a miraculous sign from you.“ Matthew 12:39 He answered, "A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a miraculous sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. Matthew 12:40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
  28. 28. Matthew 12:41 The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now one greater than Jonah is here. Matthew 12:42 The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon's wisdom, and now one greater than Solomon is here.
  29. 29. CONCLUSION: PRODIGAL SON Luke 15:20 So he got up and went to his father. "But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.
