• Within the explosive growth and improved realization, organizations are facing key issues at a number of levels.
• Okay, so maybe you're a little intrigued by this thing called project management. But, as a career, where can you go? And how quickly? Naturally, experience and education will play an important role as you progress into and through the project management profession. For starters, let's look at entry level opportunities. Most likely, that will be a project management position in a small or large company. Your credentials may include a certificate in a technical field (developer or analyst) or in a functional area (Web, accounting, human resources, etc.) or an undergraduate degree in project management. If you don’t have an undergraduate degree, your background may include some college, or three years or less of work experience with no college background. Okay, so you've landed an entry level position in project management. Now what? What's your next move? Truthfully, how you advance within the project management profession is pretty much up to your ambition, interests and the direction you want to go. One possible path of progression is outlined below. Know, however, that as you assume positions with greater responsibility, educational requirements will vary:

2. 2. What is PM? Today PM is a Profession, has international associations (US, UK, EU, AUS..) (15000 PMI ® , USA members from India) global standards, body of knowledge, certification, accreditation & code of conduct It is the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to meet requirements in time, within budget and to expected quality
3. 3. Demand for PM IBM, for instance, started with 5,000 employees in India five years ago, and now they have over 80,000. The reason they have managed such a growth is because of their superior performance in managing projects. The Economic Survey this year shows that over 260 infrastructure-related projects are behind schedule — about 80 related to roads. The major difference in what management schools teach you and is what project management looks at is the output — a clearly defined outcome Meta Group More than 75 percent of 219 IT executives interviewed this year indicated that a lack of in-house project management skills was a major issue for them. Forrester Inc concurred with this research saying, “A lot of unofficial training is going on where people take on the role of project manager.” However, most executives also concurred that providing project management training to IT focused staff was a big “challenge”.
