M2M is an emerging technology. IDC predicted that one third of
embedded devices are to be M2M enabled by 2015. Lots of
industries are getting engaged in M2M such as healthcare, home
management, industrial monitoring and automation.
M2M: The challenges
M2M means Smart: Smart services, Smart connectivity, Smart devices.

Coordination of devices (multiple locations, different
device types and vendors)
Complicated interaction logic
Hardware limitations (RAM,CPU)
Various communication / management protocols

Complicated decision-making logic is moved out of the
device to the cloud.

Devices are not exposed to external (global) network.
What is M2M cloud?
iDigi® ConnectorTM enables M2M communication between the iDigi Device Cloud and
your device. It provides the following basic functionality:
Configuration information – is a set of the most common characteristics for
an embedded device.
Firmware download – provides mechanism for updating firmware on a
Data requests – provides interface for transmitting device-specific types
of data between a device and iDigi Device Cloud.
File system access – enables access to the part of a device file system.
Remote configuration access – on startup device informs M2M cloud with set
of options it supports and provides set/get callbacks.
We have integrated the iDigi Connector into OpenWRT (Read more). The
following features have been enabled for this platform:
Basic configuration information (IP address, MAC address, description etc.)
Save/restore configuration is implemented using file system access
Firmware version and a few more configuration options via Remote
AndroidTM integration (MSA)
We have also integrated the iDigi Connector to Android platform, resulting in
an app called MSA (Mobile Security Alert). MSA is an M2M application which
allows monitoring the security status of any Android device:
