TEAM 9: Open Transport Map (OTM) Applications for Africa

  1. 1. IST-Africa Hack TEAM 9: Open Transport Map Applications for Africa presented by Daniel Beran, 2019-05-10
  2. 2. Introductory motivation • Traffic is dynamic, your decision making should be too. STM tool: •Server based traffic modeling tool with web API •Be able to model “what-if” analysis of city traffic •Pilot cities at the moment: Pilsen (Czechia), Flanders (Belgium)
  3. 3. Existing Pilsen pilot application
  4. 4. • Q: Can we develop a STM app for an African city with open-source data? IST-Africa Hack TEAM 9: Open Transport Map Applications for Africa
  5. 5. Workflow
  6. 6. Web application of Nairobi traffic
  7. 7. How it can be improved •Open source data has its limits. •For precise modelling we would require: •Realistic network attributes (i.e. capacity, speed) •More dense dataset of traffic generators •Local specific knowledge of car usage •Calibration data
  8. 8. What was achieved • Co-working of Czech and Kenya local experts • Basic traffic model of Nairobi in Web STM app • Bottle necks of traffic modelling with open source data
  9. 9. Thank you for your attention IST-Africa Hack TEAM 9: Open Transport Map Applications for Africa František Kolovský Karel Jedlička Jan Sháněl Davince Koyo Paul Omulokoli Mugeha Laura Daniel Beran
