  2. 2. Week 2 Objectives <ul><li>Lesson 2.1: Compare and contrast personal learning theory </li></ul><ul><li>Lesson 2.2: As a group, collaboratively establish list of factors affecting quality of collaboration and learning outcome </li></ul>
  3. 3. Lesson 2.1 <ul><li>In this activity, you will compare and contrast the personal learning theories of your group members and yourself. In other words, you will identify and discuss the similarities and differences between members’ causal maps. </li></ul><ul><li>The discussion that would take place here would set the stage for the next activity; for your group to negotiate, collaborate, and decide on a set of factors to be included into the group’s CSCL theory. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Requirements <ul><li>Initial postings by Thursday, 11:59pm, EDT. </li></ul><ul><li>At least 4 contributions in response to your group members’ postings by Sunday, 11:59pm, EDT. </li></ul>

Activity Tasks <ul><li>To complete this activity, you will need to do the following: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>1)Download your group members’ personal learning theory papers and causal maps . </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Go to your group’ project room and click the file exchange button. Under the file exchange folder, download the personal learning theory papers and causal maps of your group members. </li></ul></ul>

Review each member’s personal learning theory and causal map, and note down common factors that have been identified by all members in your team. Also, note down factors that you have identified but not been addressed by all members in the team. </li></ul></ul>

One of your group members (identified last week) is to post the list of common factors that have been identified by all members in your team. This listing is to be posted unto your group’s wiki page (see navigation panel on wiki site) under List of Common Factors . Each posting is to consist of a factor title (less than 5 words) and a short description of that factor (no more than 50 words). </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>This posting is to be completed by Thursday, 11:59pm, EDT. </li></ul></ul>

Each of you is to list the factors that you have identified but not addressed by all members of your group unto your group’s wiki page under List of Different Factors . Each posting is to consist of a factor title (less than 5 words) and a short description of that factor (no more than 50 words). Should similar factors have already been posted by other members of your group, you need not post the same factor again. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Each member should make at least 1 posting. This posting is to be completed by Thursday, 11:59pm, EDT. </li></ul></ul>

In this second part of the activity, you will discuss the similarities and differences between your group’s personal learning theories. To do so, you will need to make at least 1 posting on a common factor as listed under List of Common Factors , and at least 3 postings on factors as listed under List of Different Factors . In your postings, you are to explain why you think the particular factor should be included / excluded from the group’s CSCL theory. If possible, support your explanation with references and experiences. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>This posting is to be completed by Sunday, 11:59pm, EDT. </li></ul></ul>

Activity Tasks (continued) <ul><ul><li>Bear in mind the following when conducting your discussion: The purpose of this exercise is to broaden your perspective on factors that affect collaborative learning, so do keep an open mind. Respond to member’s comment to share alternate viewpoints. Be courteous in nature and be clear in pointing out the problem. Engage in conversation that enhances learning. </li></ul></ul>
