Contestants may be individuals or teams with a business idea for a product or service, andworking prototype. Existing companies may participate but must have under $10000 USD ofbooked revenue as of Jan 7 2013.4. Contestants competing for prizes may be individuals or organizations (profit, non-profit,academic) with fewer than 10 employees. Public sector agencies/organizations may not compete.5. To enter you must submit via email an 11-page pdf document, following the format providedat facebook.com/pitchITCaribbean by 5pm EST on Jan 7 2013.6. Participation is Free.7. Submissions will be judged on the following criteria:(1) business feasibility, (2) novelty and innovation, (3) clarity of presentation, and (4) potentialdevelopment impact.8. Up to 10 finalists will be announced on Feb 1 2013.9. Finalists are required to submit a link to a video of their pitch presentation and a revisedversion of an 11-page pdf document, following the format provided at facebook.com/pitchITCaribbean by 5pm EST on Feb 22 2013.10. There are two prize categories.a. Grand Prize (selected by an expert jury).b. Peoples Choice (selected by the public).11. Individuals may form teams and submit entries on behalf of teams. At least one individual perteam must be of age of majority in their country at the time of entry.C. Employees of the World Bank Group, the members of the Jury Panel or any company orindividual involved with the design, production execution or distribution of the Competition andtheir immediate family members (spouse, parents and step-parents, siblings and step-siblings,and children and step-children, aunt, uncle, niece and nephew) are not eligible to join theCompetition.Competition Enrollment PeriodThe Competition Enrollment Period begins on Nov 30, 2012 at 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time(“EST”) and ends on Jan 7, 2013 at 5:00 PM EST (the “Competition Enrollment Period”). OnlyEntries actually received during the Competition Enrollment Period will be accepted.How to EnrollEach Contestant is required to provide the following Submission:1. An 11 page pitch deck in pdf format based on the pitch deck template found here:http://www.slideshare.net/pitchITCaribbean/pitch-it-caribbean-pitch-deck-template..This document must be emailed to the following email address: email@example.com the enrollment deadline of Jan 7 2013, 5pm EST.Rules/Principles1. Submissions must be pdf documents and emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Once a submission is submitted, the contestant cannot make any changes or alterations to thesubmission until the judging is complete.3. All submissions will be available for public use and evaluation by Jan 7, 2013 EST for judgingpurposes.4. Contestants may submit more than one Submission.5. Each Submission must be in English.
6. Submissions which adversely affect the reputation of the World Bank Group will not beaccepted.7. Submissions must not: a) be illegal under applicable laws; b) depict hatred, defames, threatensa specific community in the society or that can incite violence; c) contain vulgar language orviolence; or d) contain pornography, obscenity or sexual activity.8. Submission must a) be original; b) be solely owned by Contestant(s) and no other party hasany rights or interest, whether known or unknown; and 3) not violate the Intellectual Propertyor privacy rights of other parties. Intellectual property rights of submissions will be owned bythe Contestants. The World Bank disclaims any liability for infringements or other violations ofintellectual property rights based on claims of ownership by Contestant.Judging Criteria, Screening and Judging Process, Jury PanelA. Submissions will be judged on the following criteria (“Judging Criteria”):(1) business feasibility, (2) novelty and innovation, (3) clarity of presentation, and (4) potentialdevelopment impactB. Screening and Finalist Selection Process1. Submissions will initially be screened by a Committee. The Committee will verify thatthe Contestant meets the Eligibility criteria and its Submission(s) meet the SubmissionRequirements. The Committee will be selected by the World Bank.2. All Submissions that pass the screening will then be evaluated by the Committeebased on the Judging Criteria. Up to 10 finalists will be selected.3. C. Finalist Jury PanelA Finalist Jury Panel will be determined by the World Bank. The World Bank reserves the rightto substitute or modify the Finalist Jury Panel at any time for any reason. Up to 10 finalistssubmissions will be judged by a Finalist Jury Panel based on the judging criteria to select thesubmission to be awarded the Grand Prize. The dates for the judging are between Feb 22, 2013and March 1, 2013.DECISIONS OF THE COMMITTEE AND JURY PANEL ARE FINAL AND NOT SUBJECTTO NEGOTIATIONS OR APPEAL.
AwardsA. Grand PrizeIn the event of a tie, then the winner will be selected based on a vote by the Finalist Jury Panel.B. People’s Choice AwardPublic voting will take place between Mar 1, 2013 at 5:00PM EST and Mar 15, 2013 at 5:00PM EST. Public voting by registered facebook users will determine the winner of the People’sChoice Award. Each registered facebook user may only vote once during the voting period.Use of an automated process or similar device to submit an electronic vote is strictly prohibited.Any attempt to circumvent the one vote limit per Submission or to use an automated vote processwill subject all votes from the person to disqualification. If a Contestant receives multiple and/or irregular votes from the same user or users, including but not limited to, votes generated bya robotic, programmed, script, macro, other automated means or other source, the World Bankreserves the right to disqualify the Contestant in their sole discretion. If the voting process forthe Popular Choice Award fails to operate properly or appears to be tampered with or taintedwith errors, fraud or unfair practices, the World Bank its sole discretion reserves the right touse another means to determine the winner of the People’s Choice Award, i.e. random selectionor appointing a panel of judges. Contestants may not pay people or provide any other type ofconsideration in exchange for votes. Any Contestant who violates the ban on paying orproviding consideration in exchange for votes will be disqualified. Public votes may be displayedon the competition website, on a real-time basis, before being verified for integrity. Theseunverified votes do not necessarily reflect accurately the winner of the People’s Choice Award.The winner of the People’s Choice Award will be the entrant(s) who are contacted directly bythe World Bank after votes have been verified. The World Bank reserves the right to modify thevoting period at anytime for any reason.Verification of Potential WinnersALL POTENTIAL AWARD WINNERS ARE SUBJECT TO VERIFICATION BY The WorldBank WHOSE DECISIONS ARE FINAL AND BINDING IN ALL MATTERS RELATED TOTHE COMPETITION.Award winners must continue to comply with all terms and conditions of these Official Rulesand winning is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements. The potential winners will be notifiedby email, telephone, or mail on or about March 1, 2013. The potential winners will be requiredto sign and return to the World Bank , within Ten (10) days of the date notice is sent, an affidavitof eligibility, and liability/publicity release (except where prohibited) in order to claim his/her prize if applicable. If a potential winner of any prize cannot be contacted, fails to sign andreturn the affidavit of eligibility and liability/publicity release within the required time period(if applicable), or if the prize or prize notification is returned as undeliverable, potential winnerforfeits prize. In the event that a potential winner of a Competition prize is disqualified for any
PublicityExcept where prohibited, participation in the Competition constitutes winners’ consent to theWorld Bank’s use of winner’s name, likeness, photograph, voice, opinions and/or hometown andstate for promotional purposes in any media, worldwide, without payment or consideration.Limitations of LiabilityThe World Bank is not responsible for: (1) any false, incorrect or inaccurate information,whether caused by Contestants, printing errors or by any of the equipment or programmingassociated with or utilized in the Competition; (2) technical failures of any kind, including,but not limited to malfunctions, interruptions, or disconnections in phone lines or networkhardware or software; (3) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the entry process orthe Competition; (4) technical or human error which may occur in the administration of theCompetition or the processing of entries; or (5) any injury or damage to persons or propertywhich may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from Contestant’s participationin the Competition or receipt or use or misuse of any prize. If for any reason an entrants’Submission is confirmed to have been erroneously deleted, lost, or otherwise destroyed orcorrupted, entrants’ sole remedy is another provide another Submission.No Recourse to Judicial ProceduresIn the event that an entrant should disagree with any of these Competition Rules or any decisionmade by the World Bank or the Judging Panels, Contestant will have the right to withdraw itsSubmission. To the extent permitted by law, the rights to litigate, to seek injunctive relief orto any other recourse to judicial procedure in case of disputes or claims resulting from or inconnection with this Competition are hereby excluded, and Contestant and Voters expresslywaive any and all such rights.Preservation of ImmunitiesNothing herein shall constitute or be considered to be a limitation upon or a waiver of theprivileges and immunities of the World Bank, or any other member of the World Bank Group,which are specifically reserved.Use of World Bank Name and DataThe use of the World Bank name, or any trademark, official mark, official emblem, or logo ofthe World Bank, or any of its other means of promotion or publicity is strictly prohibited exceptfor attribution purposes only.The World Bank will prosecute, to the fullest extent of the law, anyother use of the World Bank name, or any trademark, official mark, official emblem, or logo ofthe World Bank.
