    3. 3. The Reasons of the shortage <ul><li>A 100 yr old pipeline system laid down by </li></ul><ul><li>the British which is now corroded and leaking. </li></ul><ul><li>Rampant Realty expansion. </li></ul><ul><li>Encroachment of existing lakes and water </li></ul><ul><li>bodies. </li></ul>
    4. 4. <ul><li>Illegal water mafia. </li></ul><ul><li>Non implementation of the Chitale report that was submitted 13 yrs ago. </li></ul><ul><li>The distribution channel from source to user is Extremely Long. </li></ul>
    5. 5. An ignored area Mumbai has 129 recognized water bodies !!!!!!! ( 70 lakes – WWF, India ) SAVE OUR LAKES

Solution…Save our Water Bodies <ul><li>We need to Identify the Owners of the land where the lakes are present. </li></ul><ul><li>Create a ‘Water Plan’ – Water Harvesting /potential usage of the water source based on the requirement of its surrounding. </li></ul><ul><li>Cost of executing the Water Plan. </li></ul>
    7. 7. <ul><li>Attach an Industrial house to a Lake. </li></ul><ul><li>Phase wise completion Plan. </li></ul><ul><li>Handover the alive water body to the BMC for </li></ul><ul><li>distribution of water. </li></ul>

Why North Mumbai as a Pilot Project? <ul><li>Compared to any other Constituency in Mumbai, North-West Constituency holds maximum number (around 20) of Lakes & ponds. </li></ul><ul><li>Many of which are used for Lord Ganesh immersion during the Ganesh Festival. </li></ul><ul><li>Due to Negligence, debris & waste water, the condition of the lakes is degrading. </li></ul><ul><li>There is strong need for Restoration, Rehabilitation or Reclamation of these lakes & ponds. </li></ul>

Current Status of Lakes in North Mumbai <ul><li>Encroachment around the lakes. </li></ul><ul><li>Rapid increase in debris dumping in lakes. </li></ul><ul><li>The wastewater is increasing polluting the lake water. </li></ul><ul><li>Oxygen levels are decreasing day by day. </li></ul><ul><li>Health of the waterway, the health of the organisms living in and around the waterway, is considerably affected. </li></ul>
