Leadership Journey - February 2014 - Inspiring Conscious Leadership - Siem Reap Cambodia

  1. 1. Inspiring Conscious Leadership Siem Reap, Cambodia 14—20 February, 2014
  2. 2. Inspiring Conscious Leadership Today's business environment is volatile, uncertain and complex. Senior leaders across the globe report increases in the gap between the levels of complexity they foresee in the next five years and their own and their organisation's ability to meet this demand. And it is clear that technical competence will not be enough if we are to survive and indeed, thrive in the future. Both the business world and our society need a new type of leader – with new levels of consciousness, thinking and behaviour. People who lead with presence, connection and authenticity – inspiring, engaging and mobilising others. Leaders who can align purpose and passion, bringing greater awareness, openness and resilience to day-to-day interactions and work tasks. We need leaders who are able to improve the performance of the various networks of people, teams and departments that exist within organisations. This will require thinking beyond their traditional boundaries of responsibility. Leadership [in the future] will be about understanding and harnessing collective - not individual - hearts, heads and hands. To be effective in this new world, we must equip our leaders with increased levels of adaptability, self-awareness, network thinking and consciousness. Our Conscious Leadership Journey (Cambodia) will provide a transformational experience for a select group of senior people who will experience a world we rarely experience or comprehend. It will help equip leaders for the 21st Century by strengthening their capacity to: 1. Create meaningful and sustainable change within their organisation in the context of an increasingly complex environment 2. Build systems intelligence through an expanded perspective and an increased understanding of how social and organisational systems work 3. Lead, develop and inspire others with greater authenticity and heart – without sacrificing effectiveness 4. Leverage their strengths, values and purpose and deepen their understanding of the relationship between these areas and their organisation’s culture
  3. 3. About Cambodia The fate of Cambodia shocked the world when the radical communist Khmer Rouge under their leader Pol Pot seized power in 1975 after years of guerrilla warfare. In pursuit of a rural utopia, the Khmer Rouge abolished money and private property and ordered city dwellers into the countryside to cultivate the fields. Up to two million people died during the next four years, many from exhaustion or starvation. Others were tortured and executed. Cambodia is benefiting from two decades of relative stability, having endured civil war and the murderous rule of the Khmer Rouge. As it attempts to end its dependence on foreign aid, the country's economic potential and natural resources are drawing foreign investment. Cambodia is still one of the world's poorest countries, with around one third of people living on less than one dollar per day. The enrolment rate in tertiary education is only 14%, which means the pool of skilled people is very small. What is crucial now, is that they need to develop their education sector and they need to build partnerships to bring more advanced education into the country, especially vocational training. A beguiling country, Cambodia rarely fails to enthral. The obvious draw is the extraordinary temple complex of Angkor, the impressive legacy of the Khmer Empire and one of the most astounding sites in the world. Nestled between rice paddies and stretched along the Siem Reap River, the small provincial town of Siem Reap serves as the gateway to the ancient temple ruins of the Khmer Empire. With a distinct colonial and Chinese style of architecture this town evolved from a cluster of old villages, but today is alive with culture, restaurants and bars. There is a vast array of delicious cuisine on offer in the many restaurants. Some highlights of the journey include:  Guided tour of Siem Reap  Lunch with LHA’s (Life Hope Association) Child Development Village  Hands on building of 2 Peace houses with village locals  Visit to Angkor Wat & other temples
