  3. 3. What is Journal in MS Outlook Microsoft Outlook is a desktop email client application that helps you to track your time by using journals. It helps you to store all your personal information like emails, contacts, notes, journals, tasks, etc. into a secure location. Journals automatically record actions that you choose which relate to selective contacts and places the actions in the Timeline view. A timeline view indicates items from left to right on time scale.

The timeline is a basic element that keeps all information in Outlook (Similar to file in other programs) such as mailbox items and other MS office documents like MS Office word, MS Excel files , You can save record of any interaction that you want to remember- Even something that is not located in your system, such as phone conversation, letters that you mailed or received. The Most common use of journals to record the data or time of your interaction with contacts like: Tracking hours spent on a particular account But if you want to create a list of such items related to contact then use Activities, which is located on the Contact tab in Contacts, to track the activities and link the items to that contact.   6. 6. How to Change Journal Settings? For doing changes in Journal setting, please follow the steps are given below: Step 1: Open Outlook & Select Journal folder
  7. 7. Step 2: Go to the Tools Menu >> Options
  8. 8. Step 3: Click on Preferences >> Journal Options
  9. 9. Step 4: Chose one category from all of them according to your need, and click to ‘Auto Archive Journal Entries’
  10. 10. Step 5: In the AutoArchive tab, click on Default Archive Settings and change the location through browse option >> ok

So when you want to change these entries, then apply the following options:  Click on start button >> Run>> regedit  HKEY_ CURRENT_USERMicrosoftSharedToolsOutlook Journaling  Choose “Phone call” entry.
