  3. 3. WHAT DOES ‘PHYSICAL ACTIVITY MEAN’? <ul><li>THIS IS AN UMBRELLA TERM WHICH COVERS MANY ACTIVITIES THAT REQUIRE AN INDIVIDUAL TO EXERT A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF ENERGY, RESULTING IN AN INCREASE IN THEIR HEART RATE. </li></ul><ul><li>PHYSICAL ACTIVITY MAY INCLUDE:- </li></ul>
  4. 4. PLAY …WHAT IS IT? <ul><li>THESE ARE GAMES THAT ARE PLAYED THAT REQUIRE LITTLE ORGANISATION, EQUIPMENT OR SKILL!! PLAY CAN BE CARRIED OUT BY ADULTS OR BY CHILDREN. </li></ul><ul><li>. </li></ul><ul><li>TENNIS OR A FORM OF IT CAN BE PLAY BUT SO CAN HIDE AND SEEK!…HOW? </li></ul>
  5. 5. RECREATION <ul><li>THIS IMPLIES ENJOYMENT, WHICH IS LIKELY TO BE THE KEY MOTIVE. PHYSICAL RECREATION WOULD BE MORE STRUCTURED THAN PLAY WITH PLENTY OF SCOPE FOR THE CHANGING OF THE RULES, OR TAKING BREAKS FOR RESTS, DRINKS AND CHATS ETC. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Leisure <ul><li>WHAT IS LEISURE? </li></ul><ul><li>SOMETHING WE DO IN OUR SPARE TIME, CAN BE ACTIVE OR PASSIVE…? </li></ul><ul><li>JOGGING, CYCLING, SWIMMING, WALKING, FOOTBALL ETC </li></ul>

PHYSICAL EDUCATION. <ul><li>THIS INVOLVES A TEACHERS DEMONSTRATING CERTAIN SKILLS/TACTICS, FOLLOWED BY A PRACTICE WITH SMALL GROUPS, THEN IN A GAME SITUATION. </li></ul><ul><li>IRRESPECTIVE OF THE SPECIFIC TIME AND ABILITY, APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOUR AND ATTITUDE WOULD HAVE BEEN EXPECTED DURING THE LESSON </li></ul>
  8. 8. OUTDOOR EDUCATION <ul><li>THIS IS SIMILAR TO PE, TAUGHT BY A QUALIFIED INSTRUCTOR OR TEACHER. </li></ul><ul><li>IT IS TAUGHT, NOT DONE AS A LEISURE ACTIVITY </li></ul><ul><li>EXAMPLES:- </li></ul><ul><li>ROCK CLIMBING, KAYAKING, SAILING, ORIENTEERING ETC </li></ul>
  9. 9. SPORT… <ul><li>THE LEVEL OF SKILL IS LIKELY TO BE INCREASED. THERE WILL NOW BE STRICT ADHERENCE TO GOVERNING BODY RULES, TIMINGS AND BOUNDARIES. THE OUTCOME OR RESULT IS ALSO OF INCREASED SIGNIFICANCE, PERHAPS EVEN AT THE LOSS OF ENJOYMENT OR PERSONAL SATISFACTION. </li></ul>
  10. 10. HEALTH QUIZ 1.WHAT IS THE CURRENT BRITISH HEART FOUNDATIONS RECOMMENDATION OF EXERCISE PER WEEK? (1) 2. WHAT SHOULD BE THE RESULT OF THE EXERCISE? (1) 3. IF AN INDIVIDUAL RAISES THEIR HEART RATE SUFFICIENTLY A CERTAIN NUMBER OF TIMES A WEEK, WHAT WILL THEY BE IMPROVING? (2)
