The use of technology is greatly increasing. </li></ul><ul><li>Technology is intriguing students in a whole new way towards personal health and fitness. </li></ul><ul><li>We need to step up our program and we can do it almost for free! </li></ul>

  4. 4. Pedometer <ul><li>Step counting device </li></ul><ul><li>Used for tracking physical fitness. </li></ul><ul><li>Measurer and motivator. </li></ul><ul><li>Can be integrated with devices such as Ipods. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Benefits of the Pedometer <ul><li>Step counters can give encouragement to compete with oneself in getting fit and losing weight. A total of 10,000 steps per day, equivalent to 5 miles (8.0 km), is recommended by some to be the benchmark for an active lifestyle. </li></ul><ul><li>Pedometers have been shown in clinical studies to increase physical activity, and reduce blood pressure levels and Body Mass Index. A study published in the Journal of The American Medical Association Nov. 2007. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Heart Monitor <ul><li>Personal monitoring device that allows a subject to measure their heart rate in real time or record their heart rate for later study. </li></ul><ul><li>Chest strap transmitter and a wrist receiver. </li></ul>
  7. 7. 220 - Your Age = Maximum heart rate. For example, a 30 year old maximum heart rate = 220 - 30 = 190 Level 3 moderate range = 190 x 70-80% = 133-152bpm

Benefits of a Heart Rate Monitor <ul><li>Heart rate based training gives clear guidance on how to train to reach your individual goals, based on your personal heart rate and heart rate variability. </li></ul><ul><li>Individual rates and progress can be tracked through a computerized system for short and long term goals in fitness. </li></ul>
