Conventions of short films

  1. 1. Conventions of short films
  2. 2. Length The first thing you will notice that separates a short film from a feature film is the length. Normally short films can be anything lower than 40minutes. Normally anything more than that is considered a feature film. Example: Disney Pixar's, Toy Story of Terror is a short filmsthat’s 22 minutes long.
  3. 3. Characters The amount of characters in a short film is different to those in a short film. Normally a short film would only have 2-3 characters. This is because they don’t have to worry about creating any background information or history about the character. Letters of Service by Duncan Wellaway only has two characters which we don’t know much about.
  4. 4. Twists Short Films normally always have a twist. This is because they don’t have to be explained, the same as poems. This makes the storylines more interesting as it gives the writers more freedom. The twists are normally done to everyday situations The black hole is good example of a twist because it takes a normal situation and twists the story
  5. 5. budget The budget short films is normally a lot lower than feature films. This is normally because the short films are for producers to show off there skills only. The normally deal with a low budget by only having a few locations and 1 or 2 actors. Burden is a short film which had a low budget
