Conference participants hailed from Long Island, the greater NY-metropolitan area, New Jersey, Connecticut, and as far away as Bonn, Germany. • We are here today because we are living in a time when capitalism is running amok, at least according to the definition of the word.
  • Sounds extreme? Well, while most of us are struggling in this time of economic crisis, global wealth is at an all time high..
  • $231 trillion….that’s the total of all the wealth in the world today…
  • The USA is by far the wealthiest country in the world. We own $58 trillion of the $231 trillion. About 25% of all the wealth in the world.
  • …Most of that wealth in the world, and in the USA is owned by 12,000-15,000 people…
  • But the right now, the US economy is about 2-1/2 times the size of China..
  • …and we have six times the number of super-rich folks.. Now listen, I don’t know about you, but I’m proud of the fact that we’re so wealthy. I happen to like money, especially when I have some. I have no complaints about people who are rich, super rich, or uber rich…
  • ..but some things just don’t make any sense to me
  • ..but some things just don’t make any sense to me
  • …I guess they say, it’s only $2 billion…
  • I just don’t understand how this can be, when I go to the gas station almost as much as I eat breakfast, because I can only stretch my $20 a week for gas so much..
  • …and then Congress just won’t even talk about getting some of my money back from those thieves
  • I don’t mind folk getting rich. But the world is hungry…
  • Right here in America, half of our country, according to US HUD income guidelines, is considered low income or in poverty…
  • With all that wealth, all of that economics trickling down, how is it that we have more poor people than ever before. I don’t know who you plan to vote for, but don’t be stupid enough to believe Obama did that all by himself in three years…
  • We’ve got almost 3 million children in poverty, twice as many as we had 16 years ago, with all of that wealth.
  • That’s why I say capitalism is running amok… And it has been running amok so long, that it’s leading to utter chaos..
  • So preacher, what does that have to do with us here in this room today? Well, I believe that when evil is running crazy, people of faith are supposed to do something
  • Somewhere I read, that our ultimate end is a completely new home
  • Another way of saying that is, we’re supposed to be about moving toward a new paradigm. A new model, a new thing.
  • We all seem to know what our mission is
  • But to often, we seem to forget where we’re suppose to be going
  • And we get caught up in debates, distractions, and divisive issues
  • And we get caught up in debates, distractions, and divisive issues
  • And we get caught up in debates, distractions, and divisive issues
  • And we get caught up in debates, distractions, and divisive issues
  • God cannot be pleased with that.
  • …And forget whatwe’re really suppose to be fighting against. So instead of doing the good we’re called to do, we add to the chaos.
  • Today, we take a stand. Today, we take the stand that we are called to as believers in God. Today’s conference is not really about money. It’s about big churches & little churches, people of faith and people of no faith taking a stand that evil will NOT have the only say in a system that governs every realm of life, the economy.
  • As God’s people, we will engage the big questions of the day.
  • In 3 panel discussions, we will break down the big question into three different questions; three strategies of taking on change in the economic realm. Using whatever economic wherewithal that we have _big congregations and smaller ones, to bring about change in the world.
