  3. 3. What are the traditions that give Christianity the concept of Spirit? <ul><li>A. The word Spirit comes from the Jewish and Greek traditions through the following words: </li></ul><ul><li>B. The Hebrews used the word Ruah to describe the Spirit of God . </li></ul><ul><li>C. The Greeks used the word Pneuma to do the same. </li></ul>
  4. 4. What is the meaning of the words Ruah and Pneuma? <ul><li>The basic meaning of these words is </li></ul><ul><li>A. Air </li></ul><ul><li>B. Wind </li></ul><ul><li>C. Spirit </li></ul><ul><li>In other words Ruah and Pneuma are the principles of life. </li></ul>

The earth was a formless waste land, and darkness covered the abyss, while a mighty wind (ruah) swept over the waters . </li></ul><ul><li>Genesis 1: 1-2 </li></ul><ul><li>The Spirit of God is at work in creation </li></ul>

Prayer </li></ul><ul><li>2. Going to Mass (Eucharist) </li></ul><ul><li>3. Receiving the Sacraments </li></ul><ul><li>4. Almsgiving </li></ul>

  16. 16. Purpose <ul><li>We want our lives to make sense to us, and to others. </li></ul><ul><li>We want to have a sense of direction </li></ul><ul><li>We want to do good with our lives. </li></ul><ul><li>We want to be happy </li></ul>
  17. 17. Eternal Life <ul><li>We want to live forever . </li></ul><ul><li>We do not want to die. </li></ul><ul><li>Christianity believes that the son of God came so that we can have life eternal. </li></ul>
  18. 18. John 3:16 <ul><li>For God so loved the world that he sent his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. </li></ul>
