What is the Christian belief about Jesus? <ul><li>The Christian belief is that Jesus the son of God is the power of God. </li></ul><ul><li>Through Jesus’ life, death and resurrection God has shown his power, love and care for us. </li></ul><ul><li>Only Jesus has the power to save us and to offer us eternal life. </li></ul>

Christians believe that God actually shares his power with us (Grace). </li></ul><ul><li>We receive this power through the sacraments, prayer, fasting. </li></ul>

  29. 29. How does God empower us? <ul><li>God give us the power to choose and to do what is good through the Holy Spirit. </li></ul><ul><li>The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Holy Trinity =Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. </li></ul>

When do we receive the power of God? <ul><li>We receive the power of God at baptism </li></ul><ul><li>On our baptism we are called sons and daughters of God. </li></ul><ul><li>We are given the power to live good lives and make a difference in the world if we choose to do so through our free will. </li></ul>
  31. 31. How is this power strengthened? <ul><li>The power we receive at baptism is strengthened through the sacraments </li></ul><ul><li>As Catholics we are called to celebrate and recieve the sacraments with faith and often. </li></ul>

  33. 33. What do we receive through the sacraments? <ul><li>Through the sacraments we received seven graces from God. </li></ul><ul><li>These graces inspire and empower us to make use of “gifts of the Holy Spirit”, and produce his fruits. </li></ul>
  34. 34. What are the gifts of the Holy Spirit? <ul><li>These seven gifts or charismas are: </li></ul><ul><li>1. Wisdom </li></ul><ul><li>2. Knowledge </li></ul><ul><li>3. Understanding </li></ul><ul><li>4. Right judgment </li></ul><ul><li>5. Courage </li></ul><ul><li>6. Reverence </li></ul><ul><li>7. Wonder (awe in God’s presence) </li></ul>

What do these gifts do? <ul><li>These gifts increase our ability to relate to God, others and ourselves with love, hope and respect. </li></ul><ul><li>They help us understand life’s mystery and the path we must take in life. </li></ul><ul><li>They help us sense the will of God for our lives. </li></ul>
