  1. 1. What is Commencement? <ul><li>The formal ceremony where you receive your diploma, and maybe an award or two! </li></ul><ul><li>A celebration of your achievement. </li></ul>
  2. 2. Do I have to come ? <ul><li>No. You can pick up your diploma at the school after Commencement is over. </li></ul><ul><li>Some students can’t come because of holidays/jobs, but no date is ideal. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Shou l d I come? <ul><li>Yes, it's an important evening for you and your family to celebrate! </li></ul><ul><li>It’s one last chance to see your classmates as a group (FB doesn’t count!) and to thank your teachers for putting up with you all these years! </li></ul>
  4. 4. When is Commencement ? Tuesday, June 28 th 2011 @ 3:45 pm at The Meeting House
  5. 5. The Meeting House? <ul><li>It’s a purpose-built facility for such events. </li></ul><ul><li>Most importantly, it’s air-conditioned and has great parking and restaurants nearby for afterwards! </li></ul>
  6. 6. What are the Awards? <ul><li>There are awards in most grade 12 subjects. </li></ul><ul><li>There are many other awards, some are academic and some which focus on involvement and achievement. </li></ul>
  7. 7. <ul><li>If you wish to see everything that’s available, check the criteria online at www.pcssonline.com </li></ul><ul><li>Most awards are decided on by the staff concerned. </li></ul><ul><li>But some awards are by student application only . </li></ul>
  8. 8. So how do I apply? <ul><li>Applications are available online NOW and are due NO LATER than Friday April 29 th by 2:45 p.m. </li></ul><ul><li>Submit your completed applications to the folders in Guidance. </li></ul>
  9. 9. <ul><li>One application per award applied for please! </li></ul><ul><li>No late or incomplete applications will be accepted. </li></ul><ul><li>Final selection will be made by the Awards Committee under the direction of the principal. </li></ul>
  10. 10. Don’t be shy…apply! <ul><li>If you feel you qualify for one or more of these awards…APPLY! </li></ul><ul><li>You may encourage people to apply, but you can NOT apply for someone else. </li></ul>
  11. 11. What are the Subject Awards? <ul><li>Given to the student with the top mark awarded at PCSS (no Night School, online school etc.) </li></ul><ul><li>The computer chooses those ones! </li></ul>
  12. 12. How do I get my invitations? <ul><li>They will be given out in Homeroom. </li></ul><ul><li>Office Homeroom, get yours in the front office. </li></ul><ul><li>There will be an email account to RSVP to on the invitation. PLEASE RSVP! </li></ul><ul><li>It is not an appropriate event for small children. </li></ul>
  13. 13. What do I need to graduate? <ul><li>Check your transcript online! </li></ul><ul><li>Make sure you have your 40 Community Service hours recorded in the Guidance Department! If not, you’re don’t graduate! Sorry! </li></ul>
  14. 14. How is seating assigned? <ul><li>Have your family members arrive early to secure good seats (and food!) </li></ul><ul><li>The Meeting House can house over 1,000 people comfortably! </li></ul>
  15. 15. Anything else??? <ul><li>Come to Commencement ready to celebrate with your family & friends, then go out for dinner afterwards! </li></ul><ul><li>Enjoy the night: it only ever happens once. </li></ul><ul><li>Any questions? Just ask! </li></ul>
  16. 16. So, on June 28 th 2011? <ul><li>Dress nicely. </li></ul><ul><li>Arrive by 3:45; there's food! </li></ul><ul><li>Be prepared to fill out an information card. </li></ul>
