The document discusses a Laboratory on Narrative Pedagogy and Salutogenesis created at the University of Perugia in Italy. The laboratory aims to explore how narratives can contribute to health promotion education and training. It organizes an archive of pedagogical materials from literature, films and art to implement narratives in research and lifelong learning projects. While the pathogenic model is deeply rooted, the laboratory hopes to find more salutogenic materials and transform them into practices for training health professionals.

Health Humanities: creating synergies on a narrative bridge
Construyendo puentes,
creando sinergias para la salud
Although gaining momentum, the theoretical
framework underpinning Medical Humanities is still
challenged by a deeply roothed pathogenic
perspective in research, training and practice.
Nevertheless, in research, higher education and
continuous professional development in the field of
health promotion, there is a growing and tangent
interest for narratives, which shows another way of
approaching Humanities: a salutogenic perspective.
A Narrative pedagogy is related to professional
experience, and human experience, as a meaning-
making process which could be implemented with a
pluralistic approach to learning. Literature and
other cultural products (art, film, poetry) open to
multiple perspectives in the wellbeing balance and
quality of life construction.

Construyendo puentes,
creando sinergias para la salud

of health promotion professionals, a Laboratory on Narrative Pedagogy and
Salutogenesis has been created within the Department of Hygiene and Public
Health of the University of Perugia.
Objectives:
- to explore the possible contribution of narratives in health
promotion education and training

humanities selecting literature, films, art-based materials
Methodology:
The implementation of narratives in Research and
lifelong learning Projects
A monthly journal club
A facebook page to disseminate upcoming activities,
information and results (Narrative pedagogy and
Salutogenesis)
The setup of a blog is in its initial phases.
Implementation of pedagogical dossier about
salutogenic readings for capacity building in health
promotion
In crisis period the

Results:
Considering the project is still in its initial
phase, interest in and participation to the
journal club and the facebook page, as well
as the examples of documentation retrieved
so far, are positive and encouraging
indicators.
Conclusions
The pathogenic model is deeply rooted in
our culture and, as a consequence, it is no
easy to find salutogenic oriented materials
for capacity building. The challenge is
looking for positive messages related to
health humanities and transforming them
in transformative practices in training and
lifelong professional development for health
professionals.
