1. The NAS Network Attached Storage English, that is to say, network-attached storage, are
little known to the general public. With dematerialization, the increasing number of
computers per household and integrated network access to a number of devices always larger
NAS simply become essential...
NAS: how does it work?
The NAS boxes with one or more hard drives that connect to your local network (for example
directly to a "box" Internet or a switch). Their main function is to centralize files for sharing
with other users on a local network. Soon, many features have been added to this simple file
sharing. A major is automatic and transparent backup data on the NAS, with two internal hard
drives configured in mirror mode. If a disk had to give up the ghost, the data is still available
on the second. Note that NAS are capable of receiving more than 4 hard drives as well as
independently manage different types of RAID for data security (typically RAID 1 and RAID
5) and the "fusion" of space different storage disks (JBOD).
A NAS at home ...
Today, each member of a household usually has a personal computer connected to the network and
many other devices are also connected such as TVs, game consoles, multimedia drives or Blu-Ray. It
quickly becomes difficult to view, save and share or synchronize files. With NAS, things are very
simple. Everyone has a personal storage space (and private if necessary) and a common storage
space is also available for sharing. Music, movies, videos, photos, images and documents placed in
the common area are accessible to all devices on the LAN.
