WHAT IS SOCIAL SECURITY?  Social Security is a monetary safety net provided by the Social SecurityAdministration for workers who qualify as unable to work  These benefits are awarded to workers who have been employed for a certain number of years.  The length of employment is contingent on how long it takes you to earn 40 credits  You can earn 4 credits a year and one credit equals $1,260 in yearly earnings.  Based on the annual earnings of every worker, up to $118,500 will be taken out of each working citizen’s paycheck to help fund Social Security.  The Social Security tax is 6.2% of your earnings and your employer matches that number. (if self employed its 12.4%)

WHO IS QUALIFIEDTO RECEIVE SOCIAL SECURITY?  The majority of recipients are retired employees  Social Security pays more benefits to children than any other government program pays  The remainder are:  Disabled peoples  This is paid out in the form of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)  A spouse or child of someone getting Social Security  A spouse or child of a worker who passed away  A dependent parent of a worker who passed away

WHAT QUALIFIES A PERSON AS DISABLED?  The Disability Determination Services Office in NewYork  They gather information from your doctors and disability specialists including:  Your medical condition(s)  When your condition(s) began  How your medical condition(s) limit your activities  Medical test results and the treatment you’ve received  Than the SSA goes through a 5 step process 1. Are you currently working? 2. Is your condition “severe” 3. Does your impairment(s) meet or medically equal a listing? 4. Can you do the work you did before? 5. Can you do any other type of work

I QUALIFIED AS DISABLED, NOWWHAT?  After the Disability Determination Services Office in NewYork defines your condition as disabled, you should receive a letter in the male detailing your benefits and calendar for payments  If you disagree with what the SSA has deemed to provide you with in terms of benefits, and believe you require more insurance, the next step is to appeal the decision.
