  2. 2. Welcome to Kindergarten!<br />Please sign in.<br />Find your child’s cubby. There is an envelope for you and a special treat for your child.<br />Please complete the forms inside the envelope as indicated and return to me by Friday.<br />

All About Me<br />My background<br />I grew up Wakulla County.<br />I am a graduate of Wakulla High School, Tallahassee Community College and Florida State University.<br />My experience<br />I’ve been teaching for 8 years.<br />I also taught at Wakulla Prekindergarten.<br />I love teaching Kindergarten!<br />

  5. 5. My Goals<br />To provide a safe, nurturing, fun classroom environment.<br />To give your child the academic and social skills that they will need to progress to the 1st grade.<br />To help your child make new friends.<br />To inspire your child to love learning!<br />
  6. 6. Class Subjects<br />Your child will receive grades for:<br />Reading and Language Arts<br />Math<br />Science<br />Social Studies<br />Penmanship (Handwriting)<br />Work Habits<br />Citizenship<br />
  7. 7. Classroom Community<br />Our classroom is a community. In our community, we have rules to help us get along with each other and be safe. <br />Our class rules are:<br />I can …always follow directions. <br />I can …keep my hands, feet and other objects to myself. <br />I can …use small voices inside and walking feet wherever I go.<br />I can …take care of my things & keep my classroom neat & clean.<br />I can....... use caring words, work together, get along,& respect others.<br />

Homework<br />Your child will have a developmentally appropriate homework activity each week. <br />Homework activities are designed to do TOGETHER with your child.<br />Your homework packet is sent home on Friday morning and is due the next Thursday.<br />A small completion grade is given when homework is returned.<br />
  9. 9. Attendance<br />School starts at 8:50 A.M. <br />If your child is not in the classroom by the time the second bell rings, check in at the school office before coming to class.<br />If your child will be absent please contact me or the front office to let us know.<br />Send in a note or email to me on the day your child returns that briefly explains the absence.<br />

Field Trips<br />Field trips are planned as funds are available.<br />Examples of field trips we have taken in the past are:<br />Tallahassee Museum of History and Natural Science (Junior Museum)<br />St. Marks Wildlife Refuge<br />Florida Capitol<br />Gulf Specimen Marine Laboratory<br />

Classroom Parties<br />We will have five parties during the school year.<br /> Fall Fun Party (October)<br /> Winter Holidays Party (December)<br /> Valentines Day Party (February)<br /> Mother’s Day Tea (May)<br /> Summer Birthdays (May)<br />Except for the Mother’s Day Tea, you will be assigned to bring goodies for one party. You are always welcome to attend every party, however!<br />

Communication<br /> There are several ways that I will keep in contact with you to provide information during the school year:<br />PAWS book (goes home daily)<br />Newsletter (goes home every Friday)<br />School website (updated weekly)<br />Classroom blog <br />Email list serve messages<br />Parent conferences <br />

Kindergarten Parent Night<br />Make plans to attend our Parent Night on Thursday, August 26th at 6:00pm.<br />Our Kindergarten teaching team will be available to answer your questions about curriculum, grades, parent conferences, and developmentally appropriate Kindergarten practices.<br />Childcare will be available.<br />
