The CertaPart Start tool is a new diagnostic instrument to remove VIN numbers from previously installed (i.e.used or recycled) GM car and light truck radios.
Car radios are very expensive if purchased new from a main dealer. Radio modules with CD/DVD and Navigation functions can cost thousands new. A recycled radio is often the only viable option. But, unless the VIN from the original car has been removed, the radio will not operated in the car under repair. The radio will lock, and the display will read, "LOC" or "LOCK" or "THEFTLOCK" or similar.
Most car repair facilities faced with this situation, wait until the repair is done and the car is drivable and visit their local GM dealer who has special tools which can unlock the VIN from GM radios. This is expensive , inconvenient and time consuming. There is a better way.
The solution is the CertaPart Start diagnostic tool. Plug in the tool to the rear of the radio unit. The Start tool begins its procedure automatically. After two minutes the original VIN is removed and the process is complete. All the radio, CD, DVD and navigation functions will now be active and fully functional. The radio is now installed in the car under repair, the radio will acquire the VIN of the car, and will be fully operational.
The car itself is not required to be present when performing the procedure. All you need is an electrical outlet (110V AC), the Start tool, and the radio you want to unlock.
Ideal for automotive recyclers (fewer expensive returns because the customer can't get the radio to work), body shops (no need to make the trip to the dealer to use their tools and incur the dealer fees to perform the procedure) , tool distributors (new line) and retail car audio shops (perform value added new services).
