How to become an
awesome
marketing manager!
New to Marketing
Management? No worries!
Here are 10 tips that will help
you dominate this business and
become the best there is.
1. Look for potential when hiring
The person with the most experience isn’t always
the best for your team. Keep an eye out for
employees who show potential to grow quickly,
learn a lot, and display an eagerness to do
extraordinary things.
2. Keep up to date with digital
marketing trends
Digital marketing is where it’s at right now. Each
day brings new developments in this rapidly
changing field, so make sure to subscribe to
blogs, vlogs, and podcasts that deal with digital
marketing topics.
Even though you will have a lot of administrative
duties, you are still leading a team that needs
to come up with original, and exciting, ideas. So
don’t stop thinking creatively - be inspired, and
be inspiring!
3. Don’t lose your creativity
Marketing is about creativity, innovation, and
thinking outside of the box. So make sure your
employees work in an environment that is
stimulating, fun, and inspiring.
4. Create a fun work environment
As a manager, your responsibilities are
to plan, oversee, and delegate. So stop
occupying your time with small tasks and
trying to do everything yourself. Let your
team take care of those things!
5. Learn to delegate
There will always be someone better than
you. So make sure you learn from them, find
out what they are doing better than you, and
find a way to overtake them!
6. Learn from your competitors
It’s easy to be over-ambitious when it
comes to marketing strategies. Remember
that it is better to execute a simple idea
successfully than to toil at an idea that is
too complicated.
7. Focus on simple ideas
8. Work with the sales
department, not against them
The more you learn to work with a sales
department, the more success both
departments will have in the end. So focus on
co-operation and compromise, not competition
and conflict.
This is the golden rule of marketing. Get
into the mind of your target market by
doing research, conducting interviews,
and sending out surveys. It is easy to
forget that you aren’t your own target
market.
9. Know your market
As Steve Jobs said: “If you want to hire great
people and have them stay working for you,
you have to let them make a lot of decisions
and you have to, you have to, be run by ideas,
not hierarchy. The best ideas have to win,
otherwise good people don’t stay.”
