Ovarian Cyst Rupture SymptomsFluid filled sacs that form on the surface of or within an ovary are calledovarian cysts. The female reproductive system consist of two smallwalnut shaped sized organs called ovaries located on either side of thebody, one on the right and one on the left.A sac called a follicle is contained within the ovaries. This is where theeggs are enclosed. Before a womans menstrual cycle begins, ovulationoccurs where a mature follicle releases an egg for fertilization byspermatozoa. The corpus luteum which is formed by the empty follicle producesexcess amounts of progesterone and estrogen hormones which help toprepare a woman for pregnancy. On occasions whether or not the egg is released by the follicle, and/orthe follicle is empty or not, it closes up and forms into a cyst filled withfluid. Often times the cyst resolves itself on its own without anytreatment intervention needed, without a woman ever knowing shehad a cyst.In other circumstances, the cyst can become enlarged and twists. This iscalled ovarian torsion or a twisted ovarian cyst. An ovarian cyst rupturecan occur when it bleeds within the sac and the sac can no longer holdthe excess fluid.Because ovarian cyst rupture symptoms are very similar to othermedical conditions, women do not often seek prompt medicalattention. If these ruptures are not treated promptly, they could causesome serious medical complications later on.
Ovarian cyst ruptures can cause these complications:Hemorrhage - When a cyst rupture occurs, blood will leak into theabdominal cavity. This type of abdominal bleeding is coming from theruptured cyst itself and not from the abdomen. Abdominal bleeding isvery different from an ovarian cyst rupture and is a much more seriousmedical condition.Adhesions - When an ovarian cyst ruptures scarring can occur. Ifovarian torsion has occurred and adhesions have formed, fertility canbecome more difficult especially if scarring is on the surface of theovaries. This interferes with egg production.Sepsis - When a cyst ruptures, fluid and blood leak into the abdominalcavity leading to sepsis which is toxic to the body. Sepsis causesinflammation throughout the entire body and can be life-threatening ifnot treated immediately. Sepsis can be fatal.Peritonitis- This medical condition occurs when the mucus membranethat lines the abdomen and the abdominal organs becomes inflamed. In the case of ovarian cyst rupture, the fluid is causing theinflammation.Chronic Pelvic Pain - When blood and fluid isnt where it isnt supposedto be, pain will occur.Diminished Blood Supply To The Ovaries - When ovarian torsion occurs,it twists on itself constricting the blood vessels cutting off the flow ofblood to the ovaries, which causes ovarian necrosis. Ovarian necrosis isdeath of ovarian tissues that make up the ovary.
When ovarian tissue death occurs, eggs are unable to be produced andinfertility may result. Ovarian torsion can also cause blood clots to formwithin the blood vessels that supply the ovary.I want to take the time to mention this again, inflammation fromovarian cyst rupture can lead to septic shock that can lead to the deathof the individual.Ovarian cyst rupture symptoms can be a very serious medical conditionand should not go untreated. If you or someone you know isexperiencing any of the signs and symptoms mentioned above, seekimmediate medical treatment.
