Drifting is a style of driving where the driver intentionally oversteers, causing loss of traction in the rear wheels to enter a controlled slide. It originated in Japan in the 1970s as a way for drivers to avoid obstacles on mountain roads. Competitive drifting later emerged and is now a regulated sport with championships like Formula Drift. To drift requires a rear-wheel drive car with powerful engine tuned for control and traction. It is an exciting but technical driving style that also requires safety gear like helmets.

2. WHAT IS DRIFTING?
The drifting is a style of driving that consists on crossing the car. It isn´t the fastest way of
driving a car in a circuit but is the funniest way. There are some competitions and there are
severe regulations to control this sport too.
It is important to choose a special drift car; because it has to have rear propulsion. Beside, if
the car has a lot of power, it will be much better.
It isn´t a cheap sport, because there are a lot of things to pay: wheels, the car, the place to
drive, the oil or combustimble...

3. WHERE DOES DRIFTING COME FROM?
The drifting became a sport at the end of 1990; but the begining was in Japan in 1970, when
the pilots drove very fast across the roads of mountains. They couldn´t go out the road not to
be eliminated or not lose points. This sport began in mountains because there wasn´t police,
there where less cars and the roads were longer. The first official competicion was in 1988.
Soon, it was known in USA.
Only a little people know this sport in Spain or in Europe. However a lot of people love drifting
in USA and in Japan.
