The art of making an OpenERP demo. Fabrice Henrion, OpenERP

  1. 1. Fabrice Henrion Director OpenERP US The Art of Making an OpenERP Demo
  2. 2. Introduction  OpenERP’s motto: “No slideshows, Real demos”  Product demos are essential to convince (internally, externally).  A demo is the most important step to ensure moving forward in the decision cycle, especially in a Quickstart approach.  Generic demo ≠ Custom demo
  3. 3. Do’s  Demo on OpenERP SaaS platform Avoids wasting time on pre-installation, pre-configuration (eg. email gateway), VM transfers,... It shows your audience that accessibility is convenient  Start from scratch (no config, no data) It comforts your audience in starting by themselves  Show the evolution of adding integrated apps, one need at a time. Tell a story.
  4. 4. Do’s  Show ease of use (in adding and using new features/modules).  Show immediate business benefits = how features address business needs.  Know your demo by heart Rhythm, confidence, enthusiasm!
  5. 5. Don’ts  Do not push the ERP aspect forward, show the business apps aspect. A lot of products provide ERP capabilities, very few do it intuitively.  Do not show it’s complete, show it’s easy.  A convincing demo is not an informative training It’s the job of the sales department, not the consulting department.  Don’t give up in training your sales staff to demo Otherwise utilization inefficiency and bottlenecks ensue.
  6. 6. Demo Scenario  Apps: CRM, Sales, POS, Timesheet, Contract management.  Features: Kanban, OpenChatter, Email Integration, Need Action Indicators, Advanced Search, View Editor, Workflow Editor.
