4. Our Bundle of Energy. Ingeniously Simple. Simply
Ingenious.
The Original – Only from WIDMER. Spring rods produce spring tension through torsion springs. They can be
used as drive or back pull entirely without requiring any electricity. Weights are released and moved horizontally or
vertically.
At WIDMER, we began already in 1886 with the development, production, and distribution of this spring rod technology,
and since then we have constantly perfected it. Due to numerous patents, WIDMER occupies by now a leading
position on the spring rod market and is well-known all over the world.
Today, WIDMER produces spring rods with diameters ranging from 19 to 130 mm and a load from 1 to 180
kg. Especially the large spring rods are silent friends in need when human muscle power or the power of a motor or
gear is not sufficient. WIDMER spring rods are suitable in many different areas, e.g.:
▪ Roller blinds: The standard use for WIDMER spring rods is in roller blinds for sun, privacy and insect protection.
The spring rod, here also called blind roller, ensures optimal cloth stretching and rolls the fabric upthanks to its
spring force. Naturally, this mechanic is also suitable for other vertical or horizontal shading systems (e.g. awnings,
roller shutters, or dimming systems). The WIDMER spring rod is also utilized in roller systems for industrial use
(e.g. protective covers for machines).
▪ Rolling shutter gates/ grills and garage doors: WIDMER spring rods either help you open large doors with small
efforts, or they support installed electric motors. In either case, WIDMER spring rods reduce power consumption
considerably.
▪ Furniture: Any type of cabinet with roll-up doors or roller shutters can be opened and closed without any effort,
thanks to WIDMER spring rods.
▪ Vehicle/ body manufacturing: The operation of roller shutters, tarpaulins, or load area covers of any vehicle,
WIDMER spring rods master every challenge.

5. Technical Information
The appropriate type of spring rod is crucial for the correct functioning of the device it actuates.
We recommend that the maximum pulling force of the spring should exceed the weight of the roller blind by
approximately 30%, and the maximum number of turns should equally exceed the required number of turns by 30%.
The fine tuning is made by appropriate tension adjustment when the blind is mounted.
It is important to tension the spring only in one direction, namely at the tube, in direction of the arrow as indicated
on the sticker, and with locked spring pin.
Correspondingly, the retensioning has to be effected at the spring pin with the tube fixed and against the direction of
the arrow.
Our spring rods are by default designed for being mounted on the left side. That means that if you look at the spring
mechanic from the spring side, the roller turns to the left when unrolling.
All spring rods and spring mechanic larger than Ø 42 mm can be provided also for mounting on the right side. Here
the spring is winded in the opposite direction and the tension direction is reversed. Thus you can increase power by
combining a left and a right spring of any load, because the maximum pulling forces of the two springs add.
All springs rise virtually constantly with increasing torque until they reach their maximum pulling force. The
maximum pulling force is attained when reaching the maximum number of turns at the exterior diameter of the tube.
CAUTION: Exceeding the maximum number of turns will damage your spring and discharges us of any liability.

Utilization:
These models are mainly used for the rolling and unrolling of small to medium roller blind profiles. They serve
to take the weight off gear drives or motors used for the actuation of the roller blind. Apart from that, they can be
used for unrolling or back pull through straps or steel ropes.

Utilization:
Due to the extended mechanic, the maximum number of turns is significantly higher and the load development
longer. These models are used for large drops or greater heights in roller shutters with small to medium
profiles. They are also suitable for awning cloths and light tarpaulins. They serve as back-pull and weight relief.
