  4. 4. FACTORS RESPONSIBLE FOR ABUSE • Family history of addiction. (May involve genetic predisposition). • Mental health disorder. • Peer pressure. • Lack of family involvement. • Early use. • Taking a highly addictive drug.
  5. 5. TYPE OF DRUGS • Stimulants (e.g. Cocaine) • Depressants (e.g. Alcohol) • Opium-related painkillers (e.g. Heroin) • Hallucinogens (e.g. LSD)

  12. 12. POINTS TO CONSIDER. • Review harsh and disproportionate sentencing. • Legal provisions on drug treatment are adequate. • Adopt minimum quality standards. • Consult with civil society groups. • Establish regular data collection.
