1. President Obama recently build up an excitement around the science by releasing a $ 10 billion dollars
for the research of Embryonic Stemming Cells, which was a reflection of sea change in science. He
explained the reason behind the tremendous change for granting science within his speech as “ ….we
make scientific decisions based on facts, not ideology….”. Unlike USA, the Conservative government
of the Canada in the recent federal budget cut off the funds to some granting Councils, e.g. Genome
Canada. We acknowledge that Canada tripled its support to the Canadian Institute of Health
Research for the last decade, and doubled for the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council
for the years of 2000-2005. As a result, the number of Professors and other academic stuff increased.
During these years, % 27 of those Professors came from the USA. Consequently, Canada has become
worldwide leader for the research of Stemm Cells, used to treat some diseases such as Parkinson, and
Canadian leading scientist have just discovered an new approach recently to convert skin skill to stem
skill. Following the downturn approach of supporting science in Canada, some of leading scientist will
take their talents to the USA. Canada will probably fall behind the USA unless an attitude change
toward excellence in science is performed.
