Private Benjamin

 1. 1. Private Benjamin By Omar Gargash
 2. 2.

Benjamin was always interested in warfare and planes. He was also patriotic. He knew that when he became older he would become a soldier for the United States of America.

 3. 3.

His full name was Ryan Benjamin, he was born in Winslow, Arizona. It was a small town of about 1990 people. In high school he was an all around athlete and also very good in his studies, which earned him good marks. He got accepted to UCB the University of California in Berkely.

 4. 4.

Benjamin was studying aeronautical engineering, when he finally grew sick of university and wanted to pursue his life long dream of becoming a soldier.

 5. 5.

So Benjamin left UCB and decided to enter the US Air Force academy in Colorado. It was no problem for him getting in but staying in was a worry. Only the best went on to the Air Force pilot training schools, which was where he was planning to go.

 6. 6.

On his first day at the academy he adapted to his surroundings and his mates liked him. His instructor was a man of great size and status that went by the name Sergeant. Wood.

 7. 7.

Cadet Benjamin idolized Sergeant Wood and saw him as a man of honor and one not to mess with. The first week proved to be challenging, the drills needed determination and hard work.

 8. 8.

Benjamin’s training over the past few months consisted of military training, intramural athletics, leadership, and flight training.

 9. 9.

He succeeded and excelled in many of his drills and subjects, but there was still flight training he had to go through.

 10. 10.

He had long been anticipating the flight training part of his program. The academy had started using virtual reality to give their cadets a taste of how it felt to be in a jet.

 11. 11.

One day while the cadets were talking, Sergeant Wood came by and told them that they were going to start their flight training program the next day. As he was leaving a young man called Johnson asked, ”Sir, why can’t we go in a real plane and fell the real thing.” Sear gent Wood looked at him for a while and then said, “all right then Johnson.” and he left.

 12. 12.

The next day the cadets were all on the airfield at 0600 hours. All of them ready, some nervous and some excited. Benjamin, however, was both nervous and excited.

 13. 13.

As they all assembled in an orderly fashion they awaited to be told which plane they were supposed to go to. A loud voice echoed, “Benjamin, you got the plane in hangar six.” Once he got there he saw a beautiful F-15, the pilot yelled at him and told him to get in.

 14. 14.

When he was in the cabin he felt like the walls were closing in on him, he took a deep breath and he felt all right. They took off and he felt his stomach go up as the plane rose.

 15. 15.

Suddenly the pilot started pulling off stunts and said “This is how we did it back in ‘nam, son.” Benjamin clutched his seat firmly and tried to relax but after the last vertical dive he passed out.

 16. 16.

He woke up to a splash of cold water on his face. The sergeant asked him to report to his office ASAP, when he got there the sergeant asked him if he wanted to continue with his training and Benjamin nodded his head. The sergeant then replied “very well then”.

 17. 17.

The next day the sergeant took Cadet Benjamin to the training room where it was full of machines called simnet (simulator network) it was top of the line flight simulators that used virtual reality to let the user experience first hand how it feels to be flying a jet, a war or a tank.

 18. 18.

For weeks on end Benjamin used virtual reality to train him into becoming a proper pilot. It taught him how to handle himself in tricky situations and how to get out of them. Thanks to virtual reality the next time he was in a plane he would not pass out.

 19. 19.

Cadet Benjamin passed his program and went on till he entered the Air Force. He was one of the troops sent to Iraq.
